Where in "NW Colonie" do you live? Well without giving my address out over the internet, the tent was setup at the intersection of Albany Street & Lansing Road South.

I was right. Went out today and 1 block over there was a big Verizon FiOS tent set up on the corner with a sales rep to answer questions. It's now available at my house. I'm going to do a bit more research, and then probably pull the trigger soon.

I have noticed over the past month there has been a lot of Verizon trucks deployed around Northwest Colonie, and my neighborhood and those surrounding it specifically. They are now just a street away from my own as they setup shop in their trucks and when they leave there is what looks like some sort of transformer type device hanging down each block's power pole with some wires coiled around it and a few road cones around the base, until they presumably come back at some point to finish. I've tried driving by a few of the trucks hoping to catch one of the workers outside to ask if it is FiOS, but everytime I drive by they are always inside, and I don't want to be creepy and get out and knock on their door to ask.
Anyone hear anything about FiOS expansion? Everything I've read online points to them slowing or stopping their expansion due to the cost of it, but I've read that in generalities, nothing specific to our area.

I had to re-run the guided setup on the tivo a couple times, and go into advanced options to get it to get the right guide. Finally got the right guide, and then worst case scenario, all of my season passes are still looking on the old channels, so I get to go through the nightmare of re-doing about 80 something season passes. Hooray!

I wonder if this will affect TiVo season passes. They are based off of show names and channel numbers. For example if Family Guy is no longer on 1808, will it know to record from the new channel? This is going to be fun if I have to re-do my entire season pass manager.

I've been considering trying to call up and take advantage of this loyalty promotion ( info.tivo.com/PS!mOFdG9Bn/gcFBgIAAAAGCgFICgkxMTQ2MTU2NTcKCjIxMDM2ODc1NjYJAG7n5AoJNzUwNzM5ODI3BQ==?TSN=1234) for current S3 owners, to get a Premiere 4 with my transferred S3 lifetime subscription, as well as a new lifetime subscription for my S3 for $350. I thought if I did that, I could put the S3 in the bedroom with multi-room viewing in mind. From what I am reading though, it seems like you can only transfer shows between S3 and Premiere, not stream them. Transferring shows would take forever, so I'm not too keen on that. The answer to do what I want to do seems to be purchasing a TiVo Mini once it comes out. I can stick that in the bedroom, and it can watch live tv or recorded shows from the Premiere downstairs (assuming I take advantage of that deal and get one). Then perhaps I can sell my TiVo HD (any ideas what I could get for a TiVo HD w/ 1TB drive and lifetime subscription?), and get a TiVo Mini for the bedroom. I watched the video of it on Engadget, and it seems like it will do what I want, but at the end the guy mentions the fee for the Mini will be less or you have the option to buy a lifetime subscription for it. I was shocked. The Mini wouldn't be downloading any guide data, the Premiere would do that. All it would do is extend the range of the Premiere. Seems like a money grab by TiVo. Anyway, any ideas when this will be out, or what it will cost (purchase and/or subscription)?

I just got a call from Time Warner "following up" on the free home phone for a year promotion they recently sent me in the mail for being such a "loyal customer", and that I threw straight in the garbage can when I received it. She wanted to know if she could set up an appointment to schedule the installation for it. I told her that my wife and I both have cell phones and have been without a landline for 5 years, and haven't missed it one bit. I said how about rewarding my loyalty with faster internet service, or a lower bill. She said she couldn't do that, but followed up with that I would only have to pay tax on the new landline. So I said "so I would have to pay more to get free home phone for a year?" She said yes, and that was the end of the conversation. Another great customer service experience, thought I'd share.

That's not a bad idea. Will they let you re-sign up with the new SSN and new customer price literally right after you hand over your old equipment, and they will reissue the new equipment? They might look at you weird, but I guess that's technically playing by the rules.
My in-laws in Long Island just switched from Cablevision to Fios just last week. $130 for 25/25 internet, cable tv, 1 multiroom dvr, 3 hd boxes, 1 cable card for their existing tivo, AND phone service. This is in an area where they have Cablevision, TWC, and Fios all competing against each other for their customers' business.

I had been on a free turbo for 12 months promotion as a year ago I complained about my poor service and high bill. That has since run out, and instead of automatically dropping the turbo, they decided to just bill me for it instead, at a higher rate than they are currently charging (you can get turbo now for $5 a month on their website, they were charging me $10). I've since gotten a credit for what they charged me, but they would not renew my promotion and kept claiming the free turbo for a year promotion doesn't exist anymore. They kept offering me the "special" promotion of $5 a month turbo, which as I mentioned above, is the normal price for it now.
Has anyone had any luck getting recent promotions applied? I just feel like my cable bill is so expensive for what you get, but there aren't any alternatives where I am. I wish I could get the 10 channels I actually watch for a proportionate rate vs what I'm paying for oxygen and lifetime and WE and all the dozens of channels I never watch. Obviously, they'll never offer an a la carte plan, and if they did it wouldn't be priced proportionally and would probably still be a ripoff.
So, any luck with promotions?

My only critique is it seems they need some more sound dampening material installed in the studio. Whenever steve caporizzo does the weather, it sounds like he's broadcasting from a warehouse. There's definitely a noticeable echo when he's talking.

It seems like the WTEN HD broadcast looks better than the WRGB HD broadcast, which has always looked kind of low quality for HD to me.

How old a guy is he? I wonder if he is getting a TW pension, and then just got another job as bonus cash to build up the nest egg. I know a few people that have done this, they do very well for themselves.

I have a Schenectady 12304 address, but actually live in Colonie, and on Saturday there was a TWC account rep going door to door in my neighborhood trying to sell people more services and put in some face time. He was very friendly, but I was not signing up for something that locked me into a contract. I've never seen the TWC reps going door to door before. I was thinking this had to be a result of impending fios availability, trying to butter people up, and lock them in.

I came home from work today and had several fios pamphlets in my mailbox so I was so excited. I went and checked the availability on their website and still no dice I don't know why they're sending it to people who can't get the service. I feel like you send it to people to let them know it is now available. Oh well.

Is there a map available somewhere that shows where fios is available, kind of how cell carriers show where their service is available? I'd like to see which neighborhoods are already eligible.
