When 1st got my TA home I also had to call to get it activated/ The lady at the rotterdam office gave me a tel# to use if I had any issues. This turned out to be the same # which is on my approval letter. When I called that # the rep was able to send a authorization hit right to my TA which caused the green light to lock solid while I was still on the phone. I asked that rep if I should always use this special tel# to call should I have future issues. He stated yes and if the issue required escalation that I would be sent to their internal group of techs who specialize in these units. He even gave me the ext#, 2252. I wrote all this on the back of my letter should I need to call. So far though my TA has been good with the exception of resetting about a week ago. I am a bit new to using this Tivo, and since I purchased it as a display unit for $150 (which didn't come with any remote or directions, had to get a used remote from ebay) I am not sure of all its abilities. Without scouring the tivo newsgroups can anyone confirm that my Tivo (its the Tivo hd model) can archive HD recordings to my PC and iphone? If so, it this done via ethernet networking? Thanks Your best bet is to go to the tivocommunity.com website. You'll either want to use the S3 group or the Home Media group to find an answer to your question. I do believe that you can take LOCAL HD channels only and transfer them to your PC via the Tivo Desktop software. I then believe that someone's made software somewhere to convert that to an iTunes compatible format (I'm guessing it'll work on the iphone). Note, that TW has set the cci byte to 0x02 (copy once, and that one copy already sits on your Tivo) for ALL channels except the local HD (1804, 1806, 1808, 1810, 1811, 1813, and 1815). Which means you can only transfer those stations shows to your PC or another Tivo. Anything else is unavailable.

You can transfer non-copy protected programs from your TiVo HD unit to your PC using TiVo Desktop. As hurnik noted, the only channels that are not copy protected by TWC are the local stations. TiVo Desktop is available for a free download at tivo.com. The TiVo Desktop Plus program ($24.95) is also available and will allow you to convert these transferred shows for use on your iPod, PSP, Palm, or other compatible devices. Desktop Plus will also let you transfer videos FROM your PC TO your TiVo.
You will need an ethernet network to transfer programs with TiVo Desktop. Wired is best, but wireless will also work well. You can also use this network to access the internet with your TiVo to download guide data, view movies on Netflix, watch YouTube videos, etc.

Got an interesting call from Albany TWC tonight.
John from the cable card dept in Schenectady called and asked if I would go through some diagnostics with him. He asked me to go to the Tuning Adapter Diagnostic screen in the TiVo menus. He had me page through to a screen that had "Late Keys = 0" at the top.
The next line down is: "Sub Expires:0320.074400" This is the date TWC has authorized your box to continue to work. 0320 = March 20th. John explained that the TA's in TWC system should be getting a "Global notice" to extend this date every week or so. It seems as this has not been happening and the boxes lose their authorization to decode SDV channels when this date passes.
John sent a manual hit to my box and the date listed in the Sub Expires line changed to 0327.XXXXXX or March 27th. This is 31 days from today. He also asked for the info listed in the next two lines: CA Time and EUT Update.
John said they were attempting to diagnose the problem people have been having with the TA's losing their authorization. They think it has to do with the TA Subscription expiring because it has not been receiving the weekly global update.
John requested that if I do encounter lost channels and/or the dreaded 8 flashes, NOT to reset the TA by puling the power cord. He requested that I call TWC and ask for the "cable card queue" so I could report the data from the Tuning Adapter Diagnostic screen mentioned previously.
At least they have someone looking into the issue. John told me he has a TiVo and TA at his house.

Thanks for the information.
Pardon my stupidity, but WHY must TW "authorize" all these things with sub end dates. I mean it's not like we are "paying" for the Tuning Adapter and it's not like you can just pick one up at KMart and use it, so why not just let them work "forever"?

I believe it is the SARA software that they use in all their boxes. This way, you can't take the box to your relative's house in another state who has Comcast or another cable service. Just a guess.
John did mention the boxes becoming a "brick" when the SUB expires date passes.

Checked the Sub date and it was 0404. Today is 0405. I called TWC, the guy hit the box, and within 5 minutes everything was back no normal.

This call was from "Adam". I told Adam I would periodically get pixelation and audio drop outs on the Starz HD channels, as well as both the HGTV HD nad Food Network HD channels. Adam asked me to tune to those channels and head read the diagnostics from the TA. He said that my signal strength was reading at 12db, which was out of bounds from the standard reading between -7db to 7db. He indicated he wanted to send a technician, and I agreed to an appointment at 2:30PM Friday (today).

That's funny, almost every tech I've had said the range is -10db to +10db
I don't get StarzHD, but I've had issues with HGTV HD and Food HD as well.

I got a call yesterday as well. Told him almost exactly what you did...pixellation, problems with Starz HD channels dropping, random glitches with HGTV and FOOD, etc. Someone is coming out Wednesday to look at the signal even though mine was in-range at -6db Got an interesting call from Albany TWC tonight. Last night (Saturday) around 10PM, I stopped being able to receive any channels with BOTH of my TiVo HD's. The Tuning Adapters had one LED illuminated on the front, NOT flashing.
Based on my previous calls FROM TWC within the last few months, they asked me to call them when I had problems BEFORE doing any resets so they could determine why I was having problems.
So, I called and asked for the cable card queue. The woman who answered said she could help me. I insisted on the cable card queue and I was told there was no one there on a Sunday.
She attempted to "hit" the TA's...no results. She then suggested I remove & reinsert the cable card...I refused. I explained that the problem is not with my TiVo or the cable cards. Removing the CC would result in the TiVo going through a 20-30 minute reboot process. I explained that it is the tuning adapter. She then put me on hold so she could call the TWC HQ cable card desk. When she came back on the phone, she started reading from a script, "...If the light is flashing two times..." I explained that the light is steady. She looked on her script and it said that if the light is steady that the channels should appear in a few seconds. Yeah, right.
She put me on hold again to call the TWC cable card desk. While on hold, I decided to unplug the power from the TA and then plug it back in. Whouldn't you know that with 30 seconds of doing this, all my channels appeared again? I guess this is one of the negative aspects of being on the leading edge of technology.
I did the same thing to my other Tivo-Tuning Adapter and it started working, too.

My father-in-law's cablecard/tuning adapter stopped working the other night. The usual problem, steady green light, but his TiVo HD would not get any channels. He called TWC and they said power everything down and power it back up again. After the TiVo finally booted, he had all of the channels back.
This morning I turned on my TV, and I had a message on the TiVo that it had just detected a tuning adapter. I guess the TA reset itself or TWC pushed something out to it.
In addition to a cablecard/tuning adapter, I have a regular cable box (non-dvr) on another set. About a week ago, it would not tune in any channels. I got the "not authorized" message on every single channel. I called TWC and they said that can happen every once in a while and rebooting the box would fix the problem. While that did fix the problem, that's pretty hideous. I'm staring to expect taht I will have to reboot cable box and the cablecard/tuning adapter once a month.

I got the same thing last night (actually this morning). Tuning Adapter had solid green light, but my tivo said that it detected a tuning adapter. No power outages either.
Perhaps TW did something (find it odd that a few of us had the same thing happen at the same time).
As for Skaggs:
Mine used to do that all the time, except that when that would happen I'd still be able to get like 551, but not the other SDV. If I unplugged the USB cable (but not rebooting the TA), waited for the Tivo to "not see" the TA and then plugged it back in (USB cable), then it would work in reverse where I'd ONLY get the SDV channels.
Anyway Adam from TW had called about 2-3 weeks ago and monitored the TA and didn't see anything wrong, but they replaced the TA last week (I think, maybe the week before). Unfortunately it has happened once more since then, and assuming I read the TA adpater diagnostics correctly the TA IS getting the correct lease expiration time (May 13th I think it said is when it expired, and this was well before that time).
Unplugged the TA and plugged it back in and then it worked.
When I mentioned this to Adam (before replacing the TA) he said it sounded almost like the cable card was having a problem with the TA.

Add me to the list of people that had the same problem that evening. I didn't call TW...I just unplugged the TA and plugged it back in and all the channels started coming in on the Tivo.
