What about Stuart Scott's bi-colored eyes? Hey, you could compare Kornheiser and Berman's comb-overs!!! Yes, TWC must do this now before my head explodes from imagining the possiblities of viewing ESPN in HD.

It will be up and running shortly, no info on prices, assuming it will be part of the HD tier, and will obviously have a cost involved, this was the major holdup. Word has it will be up by Sunday Night Football. This is huge for TWC's HD lineup. I can't wait this long, I must see Mort and Mel Kiper Jr.'s hair in Hi Def!!!

Alot of local TWC websites around the country are down right now...perhaps posting ESPN HD info? (Wishful thinking on my part perhaps..)..based on what's happening in SD, Columbus and KC. I expect ESPN to be a TWC premium HD channel here...that may be what's holding carriage up here while the TWC execs figure out how to market and sell it along with other HD stuff that just got much more valuable to them...In these other markets INHD, in addition to HD Net are on a premium tier so...the arrival of ESPN HD in the Capital District may be a "good news/bad news situation"...good in that we finally get it...bad in that we'll have to pay for it and maybe for INHD as well!!! As for me...I'm ready and willing to pay for it!!! GET THAT BABY ON THE WIRE!!! Hell, I'd pay for it... Get it on there ASAP!

The agreement was reached late Friday. 7 TWC Divisions already have ESPN HD on their lineup as of yesterday. Look for a press release shortly, trust me, the deal is done. Check out AVS forums if you need more proof. I have also heard from my sources the deal good thru 2005. Oh, I don't doubt that it's done, I just want Albany TWC to get it on ASAP! I needs my Sunday Night Football... And I need to see Dan Patrick in Hi-Def... Don't ask... Does this also mean other HD Disney channels will be showing up shortly?

I've been monitoring ESPN HD's homepage on the ESPN site, and the latest press release is that ESPN2 HD is coming in January 2005. Haven't seen a press release that says they've come to agreement w/ TWC. They usually put out a press release when a cable company starts carrying the HD channel.

First time poster and new HDTV enthusiast. I have a Sony 34" XBR, which I'm VERY pleased with, along with an Explorer 8000HD STB from TWC. Unfortunately, I can't get OTA signals since I don't have a ATSC tuner in my TV, and I don't want to purchase a STB just for Over the Air Channels... Just had some questions now that TWC's HD lineup has increased to 12 channels:
What's the latest word on WRGB and their refusal to provide a proper HDTV signal?
When will ESPN and TWC get their heads out of their respective butts and get them on the air? I've tried to contact both parties on this matter and have gotten nothing.
Just read that WEWB has a (pretty weak) HDTV signal? Shouldn't it be easy for TWC to hook up their HDTV signal since they're owned by he same parent company? What about UPN? Isn't that a TWC thing?
There are other HDTV channels out there (Starz, Bravo, etc). Any news when those channels will be provided.
Sorry for the long-winded post, but I'm excited about it all. It's an amazoing picture, and I can't really watch SDTV anymore.
Thanks, Bill Lehecka

Did you have to run the setup again or did it just work when you plugged it in? Coincidentally, I tried it again last night, but it didn't work. No setup, I just plugged it in on the off-chance it would work, and it did.

Mine's the opposite...Around Christmas 2004, my HDMI - DVI connection was working great, and now it is not. That leads me to believe it is not my Toshiba, since both OldMatador and I have had it working. I honestly thought it was my cable cord or the box. I knew it wasn't my DVI port on the TV because I had the DVI working on my 8000HD box. I was wwaiting for the HDMI port to be officially activated, but on a hunch, I tried it. It worked!

It's funny. About a month ago, my HDMI port wasn't working correctly, but now it's working great! It's like a crapshoot.

I found out how to get into my Toshiba's "secret" service menu by going to AVS Forum and seaching for my model #. The Home Theater Spot's website also has these same type of forums. Good luck and be careful. You don't want to change something inadvertently. Sony's setup is pretty idiot proof. Even if you screw up everything, you can revert back to the manufacturer's default settings. I made changes to my overscan (hsiz and vsiz), but now I noticed that there is a slight pincusioning effect going on that I never noticed before. Before I continue, I think I'll pick up a Digital Video Essentials DVD so I can make sure my picture is perferctly rectangular.

So I find out that it's not the cable box that's causing the overscan, its the stupid TV. Apparently, you can adjust this in a Sony by going to its super secret Service Menu, but I don't know how to get to it and no one wants to tell me about it online or in person (kind of like the Masons) so I can change the overscan. nyone here know how to get into Sony's super Secret Service Menu and know how to adjust the overscan on the TV?
Thanks!

Got the box this morning. Slightly nicer lady at the counter today.
I LOVE the PassThrough feature. Very sweet. Regular channels now possess the proper aspect ratio on my TV, with the proper sized pillar boxes. However, the HD channels still crop the picture on the sides, with the HD graphics on ESPNHD being cut ever so slightly. This is rather annoying.
Other than that, I didn't notice too much else. The box is more responsive. It's MUCH lighter. I'm kind of annoyed that the Time on the box is now smaller than before, but overall, I'm happy.
Has the HDMI port been enabled? I'm currently using the Component Video, but am in the midst of purchasing a DVI-HDMI cable.
When will Multi-Room capability be enabled on the new box?

So yesterday I decide to go to my local cable office in Troy to switch my 8000HD with my 8300HD. Based on people's experiences here, the experiences at the offices have been rather pleasant. Not so here. I get there with my girlfriend and this 60 year old woman starts barking, "The computers are down, the computers are down, I can't do anything!"
So we just said we wanted to exchange boxes. She asked "Why? They're the same..." I said , "Because the 8300HD has more features than the 8000HD" She asked rudely, "Did a buddy tell you this?" I told her, "No, technical people and Time Warner have told me this." She goes back into the back room, says there are three left, but couldn't do anything for me because Time Warner's computer systems are down. My girlfriend and I left, and I'll go this morning to do the exchange, hopefully this time with someone more pleasant.
I had a run-in with tons of rude people yesterday. It was uncanny!

I personally think the TV handles the upconversion of the signal better than the box. If the TV upconverts the signal to make it cleaner, then it's best to do that. I also think overscan is more true with a SD pic than a HD-converted SD pic.

Quick question, my toshiba 57h83 is hooked up to my 8300dvr box thru component wires. When watching cable, I cannot use my tv's stretch options, only the options built into my cable box; normal, stretch, zoom 1 and 2. When I try to stretch or fill with my toshiba remote it says not available? My coworker recently got a lcos phillips tv and he can stretch with his tv using his 8300 box and component wires? Am I missing something? I'm going to guess that the box is only outputting a 1080i signal or a 720p signal to the TV, no matter if it's a HD or SD channel, which the TV will say, "This is a HD signal, so stretching will not be necessary." If you allow passthrough, standard definition channels will output in 480i or 480p, and the TV will then allow for stretching.
