New today - channel 1809 - YNN HD Haven't seen anything actually in HD on there this morning. Is YNN planning to broadcast in HD, or is this channel just the same as the SD channel but with blue YNN bars on the side?

I think TWC realizes there are alot of people like me who basically don't bother with SD content and always stay up in the HD tiers so they put the channel up there. I'm sure at some point they will start offering HD content, but I wouldn't look for it anytime soon.

Of course, let's not forget that TWC is competing with satellite for the "most" HD channels. So, don't quibble over the small detail that NONE of the programming on a given HD channel is in actual HD. It's just a way to artificially inflate their total.

Yea, but the satellite companies are by far the worst when it comes to fudging the HD numbers.

Yeah but honestly, as I'm sure is the case with most of us here, I don't care how many HD channels a carrier has, just if they have the ones I want to watch, which both DTV and TWC do now.
Now I think the bigger issue is that they don't have the NFL Network STILL and things like that.
So I wonder how effective their HD number campaigns really are.

I'm with you - the only thing we don't have that I want is NFL Network. I don't have the Sports Tier now, but I would gladly subscribe if we were to get the NFL Network.

Yes, it looks that way. Haven't spent a significant amount of time watching this channel but the bars exist on the side from the brief time I watched.

I have a work relationship with someone in YNN's technical operations department. I asked when YNN HD will actually start to show HD content. Here is the reply I received:

So, basically, we have at least a year of SD content on the HD channel. I can somewhat understand the audience part, but it seems like quite a waste of bandwidth (even if it is SDV).
