Why's that? What's the point of adding NESN if they aren't showing live games?

Regarding the new channels that are scheduled for October, does this mean that the Albany, etc Subscribers WILL also have NESN added ?

Why's that? What's the point of adding NESN if they aren't showing live games? I agree, why add it if it doesn't have live games? You will be able to see the pre & post game shows. I thought you might be able to watch the replay of the games, but check out the last sentence on the article. Here's an article that appeared on the Forbes blog: NESN Goes National Posted by Kristi DoshOne of the most successful regional sports networks (RSN), NESN, whose primary stakeholder is the same entity which owns the Boston Red Sox, is going national. Following in the footsteps of YES, the RSN in which the New York Yankees have a stake, NESN will expand outside of its regional territory. NESN National will first be seen by Time Warner customers in North Carolina and South Carolina and on Dish Network and DirecTV. NESN is also in discussions with other cable providers to extend NESN National’s reach. Viewers outside of the league-controlled territories for the Red Sox and Bruins will see other programming during games. However, those viewers will be able to see the pre- and post-game shows for both teams.New England Sports Ventures, which owns the Red Sox, owns an 80% stake in NESN. Although NESN has previously enjoyed the highest local ratings of any RSN in MLB, this year has seen a decline in Red Sox viewership. According to the Boston Globe, ratings were down 36% in the first half of the season. Nonetheless, five Red Sox games in late August (when the team trailed both the Yankess and Rays in the AL East) placed in the top ten most-watched shows in Boston. The move to a more national outreach is only one new strategy by NESN to grow their brand. A week ago, the network began running new shows featuring New England people and lifestyles, as opposed to its former all-sports programming. Although NESN’s coverage of the Red Sox and Bruins were the impetus for the network’s creation, the network now hopes to bring all New Englanders into the fold, regardless of their interest in sports. Harvard Business School professor, Stephen A. Greyser, explained that NESN is becoming an “entertainment channel with a sports base.” NESN disputes making the move to more non-sports programming because of the decline in Red Sox viewership and instead explains the network’s desire to appeal to a wide range of demographics with varying interests. The new entertainment programming will replace some of the replays of Red Sox and Bruins games.*Follow Kristi on Twitter @sportsbizmiss

Bruins and Red Sox fans in the New York area don't want NESN so they can see entertainment with a sports base. They (myself included) want NESN to so they see the games not just the pre-game or the post game show. If that's all it's going to be they may as well just give us another religious channel.

My guess is the decision not to allow NESN to show live games protect's MLB's Extra Inning pay-per-view package. You can purchase that through Time Warner and it will allow you to see all out-of-market MLB games live, including the Red Sox.

Yeah, but the two negatives to that option are the cost and the fact that not all games are in HD.
