Found out last night that a few of my series recordings didn't make the transition on my 8300 (How I Met Your Mother and Big Bang Theory last night both were not set to record when they were prior to the update). Just a heads up to everyone to check your recordings to make sure everything is still scheduled.

A friend with the 8300 DVR reported that after the software update, the DVR unexpectedly set up its own regular scheduled recording of the Channel 6 news (WRGB). My friend complained about not being able to advance the guide by multiple days and I explained the info I learned that is posted in this thread about pressing a number on the remote (for the # of days to advance) and then the left or right direction button. ;D

Our box just updated overnight...and I have to say, I love the new software. The fast-forward, skip-back feature is amazing...we've always had problems getting it to stop correctly, so this feature is great. The only downfall is, it ALWAYS skips back/forward depending on what you are doing. I hit rewind on Chuck this morning and noticed that it then skipped forward a couple of seconds also...a little odd, but I can get used to it.
Just be aware, everyone, that when it updates, you HAVE to reschedule all of your recordings...at least I did. Only two random recordings that I had previously set to tape, were still set to tape. I'm not quite sure how it chose the two recordings, but they were still intact...the rest are no longer on the scheduled recordings screen.
My box is very responsive also, the only thing that takes a little while is loading up the guide or list...but then advancing forward in the guide is really quick, much quicker than the old guide, and the list view is pretty quick also, aside from when it has to load the data.
Overall, very, very happy with this software. I've only had time to screw around with it this morning, but I am pleasantly surprised with it.

I had to reschedule a few recordings on my 8300HDC. Just went through and I'm really surprised at how different the menu systems are between the 8300HD and 8300HDC. The settings are very different.
Also, Navigator on the 8300HDC is much slower than on my 8300HD.

Bad news regarding eSATA drives: while I reported, correctly, that mine works fine (and it still does), I got a call from my mom today who lives a couple miles away and theirs (which I hooked up for them) does NOT. All the shows are listed correctly, but it shows drive used as 0% and they cannot play back any recorded shows. I'm not sure what is different since they have the same model as me (8300HD) but this isn't good.

I'm going to take my 8300HDC to the Time Warner office in Saratoga Springs on Friday. It's so painfully slow - actually slower than my non-DVR box. I'm wondering if my HD box has a problem or if this is how the Navigator software runs on the 8300HDC. My 8300HD runs very smooth. Hoping they can replace it with the new Cisco box.

My SA 8300 HDC STB is connected to my Panasonic plasma via HDMI for video only. I use an optical digital cable connected from the STB to my 5.1 home theater receiver for the audio. I have set the audio output in the Audio Settings on the STB to Dolby Digital. Everything works fine until I power cycle the 3 components. I find that, when powered back up, the STB will automatically switch from Dolby Digital output to HDMI PCM stereo audio on its own. This switch also occurs if I power cycle only the TV by itself. I did not have this problem prior to the Navigator update this week. I see several posts on other forums regarding this issue, and was wondering if anyone on this board had the same problem.

I too have an 8300hdc, but i do not notice much difference in performance pre and post update, maybe a slight delay on some commands, but no worse than before the update, so if you are having serious slow-down, definitely trade that box in.

That's my guess. I think the hard drive was making some loud grinding noises too, so I'm just going to take it in and get a new one.

To update, after having my mom disconnect and reconnect the external drive all her recorded programs (20+ hours) were lost. It recognizes the drive and has the correct space available, but I think the act of connecting the drive while powered on somehow wiped everything. The only thing I can think of that was different between her and my situation was that I didn't use my box for several hours after the update went through, while she probably started using it much sooner. Perhaps after the update the box needs time to 'process' the shows on the external drive and incorporate them in the list? Not sure, but if you have an external drive and want to keep all your shows you might want to wait at least an hour or two after the update before using the box (or at least wait a while before assuming your shows aren't available and trying to reboot / reconnect the drive).

Just swapped out my 8300HDC. The Time Warner office in Saratoga Springs gave me an 8300HD instead of the HDC. Since I know that one works well based on my living room DVR, I'm fine with it. Hooked it up and it's downloading the new Navigator software now.
UPDATE - The new 8300HD they gave me works perfectly. Nice and fast. Just setup all my series recordings.

Glad to hear it's working well. Did you ask for an 8640 by any chance or were they just not available? I already have an 8300HD with eSata and I'm fine in keeping that, but I would like to pick up the new 8640HDC to try it. It's capable of a widescreen guide and has next gen hardware onboard. If it doesn't work well, then I'd just turn it in and keep the 8300HD.

Are there any other differences in that box vs the 8300? It is indeed faster - nearly twice the processing power, more RAM, and 2x the HD space. Scientific Atlanta's settop operations were taken over by Cisco so it's made in the same factory but has been recently rebranded. Fortunately, at the same time as the rebranding they came out with a new model. I have one and have noticed it is much faster than some of the other settops and DVRs.

In order for the SATA recorded shows to be accessible after migration the drive had to be connected during the download. If it wasn't I've read that the shows can't be recovered. Gotta reformat. Also, it seems that certain boxes had their eSata ports turned off by the new software. Not sure why, but a rep mentioned that a later release is supposed to turn them back on.
