I'm thinking of doing that, but I'm gonna wait to see how it performs on my HDC box first...

My 8300HD just got the new software. While it's generally working,I can't seem to get my rear speakers to work on any programing coming through the receiver. Is anybody else experiencing this problem and is there a solution to get back surround sound?

I actually found the solution.I hit settings and at the bottom scrolled to Audio, then to Audio Coding and switched from HDMI to Dolby Digital and now I again have surround sound.Don't know why but it works

I've been on vacation and arrived home to find the new interface (which was a pleasant surprise). I haven't had a lot of time actually using it yet, but reading this thread got me a bit worried since I have an eSATA 500 GB drive with lots of programming on it hooked up to one of my two 8300HDs. Glad to report so far all my saved programming is working correctly. (At least the 2009 World Series games I have played back.)
One gripe in limited time is the lack of a super fast fast-forward. Our last interface had added the 4th fast-forward speed which came in very handy. From what I can tell there is no such speed with the new interface. Correct me if I'm wrong. Anyway, so far so good on the eSATA issue.

I ABSOLUTELY LOVE that after fast forwarding and hitting play, it snaps back a few seconds instead of playing exactly where you hit play. Makes it much easier to fast forward through commercials and not have to rewind because you went too far.

Makes it much easier to fast forward through commercials and not have to rewind because you went too far. I believe that was patented by TiVo. They'll get around to suing TWC after they get done with Dish. The entire text of the patent can be read here. Here's the abstract:

I posted this over at AVS Forum but I'll paste it here as well:
I'm in the Albany NY area and I have the new Cisco 8640. The software version is 1.4.5.1205 (date: 10/15/09) for the Image File, 8.5.15.101 (date: 9/30/09) for the OS, and 3.1.3_3 (date: 11/19/09) for ODN. The hard drive is 320GB and the on-screen guide is 4:3, not 16:9. Also, I didn't know this box ran on Linux! It lists the Linux version number in here as 1.2.17.20102, dated 12/31/95.
I haven't had a chance to really play with it yet but it definitely feels snappier than my previous 8300HDC (that thing sucked). I'm also digging how you can search for shows with the on-screen keyboard, finally!

Thanks everyone for your input! I am also posting your results over at AVS Forum. I really appreciate the info and feedback.
tehmiker - thanks for listing you detailed info.
Anyone with an 8300HD box - would you please posted your detailed info. I'd like to see what build version of Navigator is being downloaded to that set top. Thanks again.
Ben
PS: A quick note for those who were mentioning date changing being different (IE: not using the B button). jcalabria over at AVS explained this:
For future reference for YOUR upgrade (and/or let 'em know on the Albany site)... Easier than using the day buttons to navigate the guide is to press a number (of days to advance) and then press Left or Right. Easier than the DAY +/- buttons and you can jump multiple day in one shot.[/color]

I believe that was patented by TiVo. They'll get around to suing TWC after they get done with Dish. Unless they payed Tivo to use it, like DIRECTV does. That's where DISH went wrong.

So I keep getting this error message on my 8300HD:
"Your TV does not allow display of this program through the DVI input source. Please choose another TV input source"
I have my 8300HD hooked to my Samsung HL-S5087W through HDMI. Never had a problem, but not I keep getting this error message. Any idea what's going on or how to fix it?

This is the same software that my buddy has had at his place since last summer (he is a tech guy with TW) I asked him if he knew any tricks and he showed mew a couple including that day jump and the 15min skip option (just hold FF or Rew down for like 3-4 sec and wala, it skips ahead or back in 15 min increments). This also works on vod and vod now has multi speeds for ff and Rew. That B button will quick jump to the keyboard search and that search checks all content (program info in guide for all days (instead of having to search day by day like sara) and all vod content). Thats cool when you want to find a movie and it just finds it. He also showed me the series program priority feature which lets you move series to the top or bottom of the list based on conflicts. So if by some crazy move, Lost, V, Pacific, and the office all got scheduled in the same time slot or my HDD was getting full, it uses the priority you set to rec what you want. I love this! Gives me back some stuff I lost when I sold my tivo.

I'm VERY interested in finding out if anyone using the 8640HD can confirm or deny eSata support. If anyone has any luck with it, please post your results. IE: What external setup you are using like a WD DVR expander or a custom setup. For example, I built mine with a Seagate 1TB 32MB cache/7200RPM drive and Antec MX-1 enclosure. Thank you to all who are posting. It's helpful and as I find out more features and info, I'll post here.

mjbanks- don't know about your samsung, but mine doesn't care for 480i content when using hdmi. I just disabled that res in the settings menu (option in there to select diff res).
Wasnt something in the press last fall that Tivo and twc settled on something? it was just after that directtv case was ruled on in tivos favor?
So what do you think we will see first from TWC: 1080p vod, or ESPN -3d ch? I am hoping for the vod....
