This new software is garbage. I hope the 8300 NEVER gets it. Painfully slow and causing hangups on channels. I have been a HDTV owner for just about ten years and cannot believe this software is this buggy. Whether it looks better is debatable, HATE IT!

I agree. This new software is a major step back.My 3250HD was updated and I too hope that TW doesn't update the 8300s.What is particularly annoying is if you want to see what's on and you press menu you get 3 options.Program guide,Find Shows and Settings from which you then have to make a choice.SLOW.SLOW.SLOW.And there is no option to allow you to see what's on 3 days from now.

econ, you've got to hit "guide" now instead of menu. It's taken me, oh, every day since the switch to remember that. Old habits die hard, I guess. BTW, the stretch feature does indeed work on ESPN HD w/ the sidebars. . . though if they would just stop showing 4:3 SD programming. . .

econ: I got this guide on my non-dvr and press the day button on my remote to switch days. That works or you can just press a # and the right arrow to jump fwd that many days. Also noticed that I FFW vod multiple speeds which I didnt have before.

The newer boxes do run it better. All boxes will be getting it eventually. The 8300HD's seem to run it just fine. The HDC's not so much. The newer 8640/4640HDC's are better as long as you run component.

The newer 8640/4640HDC's are better as long as you run component. That's a bunch of crap. Why would you use component instead of HDMI? Even TWC will give you an HDMI cable when you pick up a new box. You shouldn't have to use component cables in order to have the software on the cable box run at a decent speed.

If you turn off the TV it will lose your custom settings and will reset to 480i. It's a bug in it's HDMI driver. They're going to fix it in a future update. To find out what version you have press select until the mail light comes out. Then press down until it says Diagnostics loading. There you can find out what version they've deployed. MDN is buried somewhere while ODN is on the 1st page. It will say ODN version 3.x. . replace the X's with actual numbers.

My 8300HD DVR was updated today at about 2:30am. It took about 15 minutes for it to complete and it rebooted twice. It seems to be running MUCH faster on the 8300 than it was on of the other non-dvr boxes I use. I'm actually impressed with how the 8300 handles it.

Yeah, after hearing the complaints I was surprised at how well it worked on my 8300. Seems just as fast as the previous guide interface.

Good to hear it's working well on the 8300! Does anyone know if both the 8300HD and HDC got the update last night? Looking forward to going home to check it out

I got the update on my 8300HD but NOT my 8300HDC. It's running MUCH better than on my non-dvr box, like chris and adam mentioned above. Liking the series recording options a lot. No complaints here, except a small dislike that you can't hit B on the guide to change dates. I use a Harmony remote and don't have the Day buttons mapped to the activity.

The 8300HDC's are much slower running ODN than the 8300HD's running MDN. MDN is for legacy boxes and is written in C. ODN for the HDC's is written in Java. The 4640/8640HDC box is much better at running ODN since it has a faster CPU.
