Guys I have been recording lots of stuff on this thing and every time credits roll on a black background this things stutters and loses sound . even long fades between scenes cause this to happen . There is no sign of this while I am watching the program in real time only when I play back the recording . its like the hard drive gets confused whenever the picture goes black or next to black . I was watching super speedway last night and the picture stuttered quite a few times and I lost audio . Hmmm stuttering is a better word for what it does . NO matter what movie I watch that I have recorded it does the same thing . I know other members of this board have reported this . I just wanna know if its a defect in ALL of the boxes or just a few . I am leaning towards all of the boxes since a couple of members have reported it here and there are only 20 members . I have emailed time warner and they have not replied . I called time warner and they offered to send a tech out to check my signal. My signal is fine its only the recordings that have this problem . Needless to say its very very distracting and I am hoping that time warner has the techs working on it. Please anybody who has this problem reply so I can get time warner to look at this site to see how many units are affected. Thanks

I have the same exact problem. I recorded Serengeti Symphony on DiscHD and the opening scene was dark with no credits and the sound skipped. As soon as there was some color on the screen the sound was normal. I also noticed this on Ghost Ship which was the first recording I did when I got my box, it happened between the credits of the studios at the beginning and at the end credit roll. Keep us informed as to what TW says. I have also read about this problem at the AVS Forum and Home Theater Forum.
It happens with SD recordings too, not just HD.

Same problem, SD or HD. I have a lot of audio dropouts as well. It is annoying but for me tolerable, as I work nights and miss a few of my favorite shows. Hope they can work out the bugs, I did expect a few initially. Kurt

I have time warner coming to my house tomorrow between 8am and 1030 . I know there is nothing they can do about it . from a signal standpoint. funny thing is when I asked them if they had any complaints about this they said they had none at all . I know that isnt true because I have been bothering them about it for weeks . As far as the problem itself I can live with it but would rather not . this problem goes beyond a minor bug this is a real design flaw that needs to be addressed . or time warner could give us a credit for the rental of a defective product . Thanks for the replies I will have the time warner guy read this tomorrow so any othert replies on this matter would be appreciated . Thanks again..

Time warner just left my house the tech they sent was very competant . He didnt even try to swap out the box once he saw the problem . He called the control room to make sure they knew about the problem , control told him they had not heard of this problem yet . I then told him of the other users having this same problem and showed him this site ;D he then called control to have them look at this site . So now they KNOW about this problem and they know about the people affected . They even credited my bill ..lol . The time warner guy thanked me for giving them the heads up and they are now working on addressing this problem . So hopefully soon our boxes won't stutter. If we cpould get wmht to tone down their logo anything is possible . I guess twenty emails a day to wmht did the trick.

Thought I'd jump in and add to the thread... this has also happened to my 8000HD when I watched a recording of "Farther than the Eye Can See" on inHD (about the blind climber on Mt. Everest... really good story BTW).
The audio was going in and out during the credits, in fact enough so that my receiver kept going in and out of D.Digital mode.

Just a little update was conatcted by the guy in the control room today who told me that Scientific atlanta is aware of this problem and will have it fixed for us shortly . I was asked not to post the original email but said I could summarize what was said . They said they will have it fixed soon and he thanked me for letting him know about this site saying that it was very informative ;D

Did he say anything about the status of the software upgrade to activate the DVI port?

Sorry man didn't think to bug them about the dvi input . The only thing he said that scientific atlanta are working on is the stuttering problem and some issues that people are having with the 3250 also .

skaggs I got an email from time warner today saying that they had an answer for you on the dvi question . They said they are currently beta testing the software and output should be ready within the first couple of weeks of april barring no problems in the software. The cool thing is that he knew about your question from coming here and reading it . So now that we have them reading maybe we can get answers to our questions from the horse's mouth. That's pretty cool ;D

Thanks horrorfan.
Once the DVI port is active I wont have to disconnect my HD OTA STB to watch DVD's.

Well when I got home from work last night I watched a recorded version of ER, it was a repeat but one that I had not viewed. The audio was awful throughout the entire show, more of the Rice Krispie problem I posted before, snap, crackle and popping. To make matters worse my saved programs in the record list are not saving and I have to go in each week and reschedule them. I pay for this box because I work nights and there are about four network shows that I record weekly, this is becoming a real pain in the a.. I leave power to the box all the time, not sure what is going on. Before the box would record the show even if it was on a different night or time slot, but now nothing. Any ideas out there? Kurt

I would say you have a defective box , Mine records everything I throw at it I have it recording about 10 different things a week . I don't have a rice crispy audio problem either . I just have the drop outs on the credits and other times when the screen turns black . I would exchange your box and demand a credit . I have done this in the past and they were happy to credit me . Good luck to you .

kia303: have you tried rebooting the box? Unplug it from the wall outlet for a few seconds, then plug it back in. It will go through its boot up process again. Don't push the power button until the clock shows up (~1 minute).

Thanks Slayer, I will give that a try, and if no luck, I will attempt to switch out the box with TWC.
