I had the 8000 HD. During playback, I was getting tiling and other distracting audio and video problems. A TW technician came by yesterday and after looking at a few playback problems said that he had an 8300HD in the truck and would exchange it for my 8000HD. I agree with comments in this thread. I think the picture is slightly better with this unit. However, I have had one problem with it. Twice now when channel surfing, the unit has locked up and then rebooted. After rebooting it works fine again. Has anyone else had this problem? Also, I purchased a DVI cable to connect the 8000hd to my TV. Never used it. Now I see that the 8300HD would require an HDMI to DVI cable. Is there an adapter to change DVI to HDMI? Or must I get a new cable(HDMI to DVI)?

The 8300DVR is not the only unit that does this.My 8000DVR did the same thing on Wednesday night when it recorded in the same time slot for Lost and Lost was not on.

I called TWC and asked what the difference was between the 8000HD and the 8300HD.The customer rep told me there was none. I don't believe her. Can anyone tell me what the differences are?

Skaggs, After my original post, I read up on DVI connections. I was told that the picture may or may not be improved using a DVI connection. I too have 2 RGB HD inputs on my Hitachi 50V500 TV and am using these 2 inputs for the 8000HD and my OTA HD STB also. When I use the 8000hd I use Vid 1 and when I use OTA I use Vid 2. When I use the DVD player I disconnect my OTA HD hookup and connect to the DVD player. I called Hitachi and a technition told me that using a DVI connection would simply take the place of of the RGB HD input that works on Vid 1.Should I check into this further?

When playing back programing from channel 1808(24, House etc) on my 8300 DVR I get brief audio dropouts. It only occurs when playing back programming on this station. Progamming recorded on 1806 ,1810 and 1813 etc work fine.I have reported this to TW and they tell me no one else has reported this. Is anyone else having this problem and if so have they reported it to TW? They are sending out a technition tomorrow and seem to think its the DVR.

I found it interesting that when I turned on The Woman's Semis of the US open Tennis today via TW, the match was in standard def. After watching for about a half hour, I tried my OTA signal and was surprised that WRGB was broadcasting OTA in high definition. I thought TW broadcast in high def whenever the local station did so.

Here is what Fred replied... I suspect when 6-3 is removed things will go back to normal. "I'm going to out on a limb and guess that you have a Zenith HDTV. I also have one and mine did the same thing. I have the 34" direct view CRT receiver model C34W23. We also have an identical one here at the station that also pixilated in the same way. I have not seen or heard of the same problem on other HD sets. I do not believe that it is caused by a reception problem.
I don't know what is causing it, but it's likely a design problem with the decoder module inside the TV set. The module itself is made for Zenith by its parent corporation, LG Electronics in Korea.
This was the first time that I've seen this pixelization on my TV. We'll be investigating to see if there is anything that we can do differently in order to avoid this problem with our receivers. I'll be talking with Zenith and LG to see what else I can learn. Did you notice that it happened more often when the camera panned right than when the action was moving left?
The next question is why did it start during Basketball? I'm assuming that it was triggered by a change in the configuration of our encoding equipment coupled with the high motion scenes of the camera panning. In order to carry three games, one in analog, one in HD and a third on our 6-3 subchannel, we reconfigured the bit structure to favor the high motion in Basketball. The video quality of UPN on 6-2 suffered whenever there was high motion in 6-1. (Sorry, WWE) We have been running this variable bit rate equipment since December with no bandwidth assigned to 6-3. I'll be watching CSI this week and other shows with action to see if the problem recurs. The variable bit rate scheme makes room for the third subchannel without impairing the picture quality of the HD signal. If that is the source of our Zenith problem, it'll take a factory expert to know for sure.
We're on the bleeding edge together, please have patience."

Since the start of the NCAAs I have been getting pixilization on the right side of my TV(Hitachi 50v500) screen during WRGB's(6-1) HD broadcast but none for non HD broadcasts.I have no such problems with any other OTA stations. I e-mailed Fred Lass at WRGB and he almost immediately replied that they did change the configuration in their encoding equipment to add subchannel 6-3. He then said that it seems to effect only Zenith equipment. I have a Zenith HD receiver. Does anyone else have a Zenith receiver or HD tv who is having this problem. And if you do , please don't adjust you tv sets(antennas) yet. The problem is not on your end.

Just had American Satellite over to "professionally " install my Winegard HD8020p outdoor antenna. If anyone needs an antenna installation I would highly recommend this installer. He came totally prepared and did everthing I could have wanted. I now get all the local OTA digital broadcasts perfectly. He also does installations for Dish Satellite and offered the following info. In about 2 months Dish will be offering a high definition DVR for approximately $200.That means that if all else is equal, it will only take about 18 months to recoup the difference of owning your own HD DVR and renting it from TW.This DVR will be able to record all Dish signals and also record local OTA signals .For those of us who would like an alternative to TW,but can't live without the HD DVR, it appears that soon we will have this alternative. Furthermore, I would think that when Directv sees that Dish is offering an HD DVR at that price that perhaps they will come up with a less expensive HD DVR(currently about $900 on e-bay) than they now offer.

Thanks for the advice.I already have a spot on the Southern part of my house where I want the antenna installed. I currently have a Directv satellite dish(which I'm not using) there with coax cable running from that spot to the TV .I'm already getting a pretty decent picture with a Radio shack indoor antenna although sometimes the picture breaks up.I'm pretty sure that I have a clean line of sight to the Helderbergs where I want the antenna installed. I'm having Hippos do it. I'll let everyone know what kind of job they do in case anyone else needs professional help. Thanks again Skaggs and MasterFX for your help.

Thanks Skaggs, Some of us just don't like to get on the roof. I didn't think of calling TV dealers.I tried Hippos and they will do it.Hippos charges $48 per hour and sends out 2 men.Minimum $96 + travel time. Can't do it until the the end of next week or the following week.I also have a call into Master Alarm Systems and am awaiting a call back from them. I'll see who can do it soonest at the best price.
