Yes it is. The 8300HD also offers two zoom modes now, you have normal, stretch, zoom 1, zoom 2. Zoom 1 is a slight zoom where as zoom 2 is more blown up. I'm kinda getting used to zoom 1.

The remote is slightly different but the command codes are the same. I use a Home Theater Master MX-500 to control my home theater and it works with the new 8300HD. Eventually TWC is going to discontinue the 8000HD, that is what I've been reading over at the AVS Forum. The 8300Hd does look nicer than the 8000HD IMO.

Yes. I called this morning and spoke to a rep. She asked what office I'd be going to. I told her Highbridge Rd, she than checked with someone and said they'll have it put aside for me. I simply exchanged it at the counter for the new one. The guy at thecounter said as of now the 8300HD is the same as the 8000HD.

I'm checking ESPN now but the the side bars are black. I'll check to see when they put up the ESPNHD bars.
I don't have a clue about the multi-room capability.

I just picked my 8300HD up at the Highbridge Rd. office. The cosmetics are different, the 8300HD is smaller. Along with the time and channel info we have an HDTV indicator which lights up when tuned to an HD channel, the scan rate of the channel, 1080i, 720p, 480i, 480p. It seems that it changes channels quicker, maybe it's me. I don't remember the 8000HD having a pass-through feature. I have my non-HD channels set to 480p and my HD channels set to 1080i, my Mitsubishi doesn't do 720p. With this setting I watch my 480p channels in the stretch mode, when I go to my HD channels the box switches to 1080i and the right picture mode which is normal, when you switch back to non HD it goes back to 480p stretch, you can have it set to 2 other zoom modes. The back is the same as the 8000HD except there is no DVI, it has HDMI instead. I'll play more with it through out the day.
I myself was wondering if the hard drive is the same.

To make it simple you will need an HDTV to see true HD broadcasting.

Yes. Mine is doing the same thing. I was getting excited everytime I found it off in the morning thinking TW was adding oh maybe ESPN-HD like their doing across the country as of Friday.
Maybe we'll get it soon Skaggs.

I have the same exact problem. I recorded Serengeti Symphony on DiscHD and the opening scene was dark with no credits and the sound skipped. As soon as there was some color on the screen the sound was normal. I also noticed this on Ghost Ship which was the first recording I did when I got my box, it happened between the credits of the studios at the beginning and at the end credit roll. Keep us informed as to what TW says. I have also read about this problem at the AVS Forum and Home Theater Forum.
It happens with SD recordings too, not just HD.

I'm going to watch the Lion King later on. Can't wait to see what it looks like. I'm also interested to see if Pearl Harbor will be shown in OAR on ABC tonight.

I was wondering also. I just watched Ghost Ship, I recorded it late last night on HBO HD. It was my first time seeing it. The movie itself was alright but the transfer was superb. I noticed a few audio drop-outs in the beginning and at the end credits. Maybe they were there during the broadcast, I don't know.

Skaggs,
Does yours have Firewire ports? I have read over at the AVS Forum that some do.

Unfortunately my Mitsubishi 46805 doesn't have DVI. When Skaggs gets his he can be more helpful due to his display having DVI. The dimensions are mostly larger in width & depth.

The one feature in the settings menu that is not on the 8000 DVR is the video pass-through that was available on the 3250. Did some more recording and I'm getting use to the recording set up menu. It is very easy to navigate but takes time getting use to the slower commands compared to the 3250. This is my first time having a DVR.

I picked up the 8000 DVR today at 3:30pm from my Rotterdam office. I called this morning and a rep said he would ship me a box via UPS or I could have a TWC installer bring one to my home. I asked if I could pick it up myself at the Rotterdam office and he checked, they had a shipment in. I brought them my 3250 back. This box is much larger than the 3250, wider and deeper. My 8000 doesn't have the firewire ports but it does have DVI and in addition to coax it has an optical digital out. I hooked up the 8000 and watched some NHL on HDnet (replay). Picture is fabulous, just like the 3250. One thing is that channel surfing is slower, the picture change isn't as fast as with the 3250 box. I've been told that it is from the DVR drive. I paused live TV including HD, performance was very good, getting back to live TV was a snap. I have started to play with the recording functions. I recorded some of the NHL game on HDnet and played it back. Picture was right on. If there is a difference it isn't my much on my 46" display. I will continue to learn more about this new HD box from TWC tonight. Those that have them coming will be very happy when you receive them.

When I picked up mine today the woman at the counter said if I replied to the email they would set something up in my home. I told her that the gentleman on the phone this morning said I could pick it up and that they were in stock. At first she tried to say they weren't in stock. She than talked to her supervisor on the computer and than proceeded to get me a box.
