I got it, they gave me the 4640HDC and so far, so good. No lag.

I'm thinking of trading in my 8300HD for the 8640HDC. Is it faster and have any more storage space? The 8640 runs ODN Navigator and is still a bit laggy, but you gain a 320GB Hard Drive. However, you are going to lose the ability to use an eSATA drive, although I have successfully transplanted the 320GB with a 1TB. You will get a different feature set altogether going from MDN to ODN Navigator. I currently have one of each. There are things I prefer about MDN and things I prefer about ODN. That said, I will likely keep my ODN box over my trusty old MDN box as ODN Navigator will get features faster, looks better with my other components and should support MR-DVR. I would actually keep my 8300HD if TWC didn't rip us off and charge a DVR fee for each unit instead of per account.

I honestly have no idea what the differences between MDN and ODN are. I have an 8300HD in my living room, the new Samsung non-DVR box in my office (that has full 16:9 guide), and an older non-DVR HD box in my bedroom (connected to an SD TV and this box is PAINFULLY slow).

Swapped my 8300HD for an 8640HDC tonight. Looking forward to playing around with it UPDATE: Went to the diagnostics screen and it looks like the box is running ODN version 3.2.0_15, which is supposed to be the problematic HDMI version (from 12/2009). I thought I had seen in multiple places that the 8640HDC got updated to a new version that fixes this?

That should have the fix. We still have 3.1 Navigator here and it was reported to have the HDMI bug. A MAJOR problem with Time Warner is that they have zero consistency, even within there own divisions! Diferent feature sets and software versions, different channel line ups and equipment. It's something they need to address badly.

I posted back on July 12 that the guide on my 8300HDC was particularly slow to react each night after 11 p.m. I guess I'll try to answer my own question with a theory. I would speculate that this is due to the fact that guide displays programming for the following day at this point in time. The guide has always had "trouble" moving from one day to the next without hesitating. The transition is not smooth at all, and may also account for the lethargy in moving from day to day using the day+- buttons as well.

Can anyone confirm what version of Navigator you are on in Albany? It has been confirmed that Rochester is up to ODN version 4. In Central NY, we are still stuck on 3.1 which has glitches in it (most notably the HDMI bug). We have the latest version of MDN which is 2.5.
4.0 should bring speed enhancements and the ability to do Multi-Room DVR with the Cisco 8642 MoCa enabled box.

So you guys have the HDMI bug fix then! What is taking our division so long??? TWC tech support refuses to even acknowledge there is an issue here!

Yeah I don't have any HDMI issues, but the guide on my Cisco 8640HDC is insanely slow. Almost as slow as my SA non DVR HD box (much slower than my now gone 8300HD)

A version is in the works that is suppose to give the HDC boxes a much needed speed boost. When we will get it remains to be seen.

All 3 of my HD boxes were updated to ODN 4.0.2_4 overnight. They are all MUCH faster. My non DVR 4250HDC was painful to use before but is now MUCH MUCH better. My Samsung SMT-H3260 is slightly faster (it was very fast before) and my Cisco 8640HDC is now almost as fast as the Samsung box. No new settings or options that I can see, but the speed increase is greatly appreciated!

Yes, we are scheduled for the update next week as well. It will take us from 3.1 to 4.0. Please report any bugs or glitches you find. I'm looking forward to the speed enhancements! Did you notice that they removed the Sort By Favorites option?

Did you notice that they removed the Sort By Favorites option? Can't say I've ever used Favorites on any cable box, so I'm not sure where that option would even be. Haven't seen any glitches, but have only had ESPN on while I work today.
