Consumer complaints are best addressed when the complaint is sent (in writing and delivered by U.S. Mail) to the NYS Attorney's General Office. Currently NYS AG is Andrew Cuomo.
Or you can write to TWC and CC the AG's office... again, use the U.S. Post Office, not e-mail, fax or phone.

Possibly, although the OAG will probably refer you to the Public Service commission who will then tell you that they don't regulate Cable and that they will forward your complaint to the FCC. At least that's what they did to me. Which is stupid because the FCC website tells you to complain to the PSC (the local franchise authority) as does TW website. But the stupid PSC tells you they don't do cable (satellite, yes, cable no).

Actually I have TWC service and am very pleased with the level of service that I get for the dollar value I pay out. The customer service is always excellent to deal with and I find when I actually call them instead of just posting hate forums that my problems actually get resolved a lot faster that way. As far as TWC always jacking there rates up, this is the real first rate increase that they have made in over 2 years and its one of the largest at a small 4 dollars average for most customers. Also I am very happy with the fact that I am not bound in any contracts and don't deal with any of the hidden print that other companies such as verizon use in there contracts with customers. Any company that has to bribe new subscribers with actual money such as verizon is doing now bribing people with 100 dollar gift cards and such, show an insecurity in there actual infrastructure and most likely indicates that verizon and the other companies locally are being crushed by the real , reliable service that is TWC.

I've got bills that would prove you wrong as to the rate increases in the last two years. I'd hardly call this a "hate forum", and most of us HAVE called TW. MANY MANY times. And the problems don't get fixed for weeks or even months. And the reps ARE not much help (I have had some helpful reps however). Take for example: TW still tells people that there are no M-cards available, even though Tom Landry @ TW has shown that they ARE available and have been for almost 6 months. TW still tells people that Vonage does not have 911 service in this area. TW takes existing channels and switches them to SDV without notice and you are now paying for more channels that you cannot receive with cable card. TW is still violating FCC regulation by setting CCI byte to 0x02 for broadcast local stations that are digitally simulcast and refuses to obey the law.

As I have stated in previous posts I have had good service with warner cable. The only compaint I have had was the long wait when I had called a few times a year ago when I had issues. Once I got someone they got a field guy out to fix my service in no time. A few weeks ago though I did get through very quick (and had a mouth full of food as I expected at least a minute wait).
Regarding the SDV, I got a message mailed to me indicating that channels were be changed to SDV over a month prior to it happening. Hurnick, didnt you actually reference receiving this same letter in another post?
What was the FCC's reply to your complaint about the local channels that you indicated you sent?
A friend of mine got a rate change update on his Directtv and comparing to my TWC bill he was seeing a 2.8% higher change in his monthly rate than I was and we have almost similiar services. In fact, he personally liked TWC and would change over if they had service where he lives which is in cow country Schoharie. I was on the edge of switching to Directv based on the biased reports on this site but after further research noticed that the claims I was reading here offset the reality. The front page makes no mention of the directv increases but rather focuses on TWC adds statiing that they offer free hd service. In researching this I find that Directtv DOES in fact charge a fee above and beyond their normal packages if you would like to access anything in HD ($9.95 per their website). Looking over my timewarner bill which I just got I only see a charge of about $2 that I am paying to access HD services (I get their sports channels for NHLHD).
Disclaimer: I do own stock in both Dish and TWC. Not sure if this skewes my view but I do have to agree that most of the discussion on this site is focused on anything that you can find wrong with your TV services with TWC rather than the HDTV technologies both present and future. With so many HD channels now available I almost wonder what the future of a discussion board with the title of AlbanyHDTV will be?

I believe you see a lot more anger toward TWC because more people have TWC than Directv that post on this forum. As for the Free HD marketing, the problem I personally have with it, as well as other TWC ads is that they are misleading. We are all paying a certain amount, maybe 7 or 8 dollars a month for the STB, unless you have a CC, in which case, just another reason to complain about TWC since they cannot receive SDV, even though it is FCC mandated.
I have plenty of family members that have Directv, and many others that have TWC. In my opinion, Directv looks nicer, has better features and channels, but it does cost more.
Long story short, the trend you see is due to the number of people posting that have TWC over DTV and the amount of problems people are having recently with TWC.

Just so you know, not even including their new business contract-incentives, DirecTV -- apples to apples -- tends to be about $8-10 cheaper/mo. than cable. Long gone are the days of satellite being the premiere priced option to cable. Since their STB is $5/mo not $8, and their DVR fee is $5 and not $10, it actually gets cheaper as you add more TVs, too. The only time it's more expensive, is if you split your cable to severals TVs in the house becuase you can't do that with DirecTV and if you want more than 1 HD or HD-DVR box becuause you do pay $100/ea. on day one for those (first one free and as many SD boxes free as you want). You can read my review here if you're interested in my personal experience of ditching TWC-Albany for DirecTV this year. www.qwowi.com/2008/02/technology-and-gadgets/directv-satellite-television

There are packages such as "Choice Xtra Plus HD DVR" that do NOT charge extra for either DVR or HD access service with DirecTV. You have to be careful trying to compare them down the line like that because where TW itemizes EVERYTHING, DirecTV will package them up. Choice Xtra Plus HD DVR gets you DVR fees, HD fees and 265 channels, 95 HD channels for $72.99. Each additional box is $4.99/mo and the first one is free. Time Warner for the same package (I say same, but of course they aren't) with 1 HD-DVR would be $59.99 for digital cable and $9.95/mo. for DVR service. I believe their first box is included, but if not that's another $7.15 + .30 for a remote each month, too, and for each additional. These are the latest, "raised" 2008 prices and they are very similar.

Like they never told us about the digital simulcast switch either that happened the same time they implemented SDV either. What was the FCC's reply to your complaint about the local channels that you indicated you sent? With so many HD channels now available I almost wonder what the future of a discussion board with the title of AlbanyHDTV will be? I sent a letter to the PSC. The PSC took about 2 weeks to mail me back stating that they do not oversee cable (then why is it listed on TW website and why does the FCC tell you to refer to the local Franchise Authority). They said that TW Cable was outside of their authority and claimed they were forwarding my complaint onto the FCC. I also filed a complaint directly with the FCC as well. Still haven't heard back, although apparently it takes several months and even then they may not even respond. I will grant you a major "plus" that TW does offer: "free" service calls/repairs. If your Verizon FIOS router dies, they charge you to replace it. Almost $200 to replace it (even though you have to sign a 2-year contract). TW won't (at least to my knowledge) do that unless maybe you put it in the blender or something.
