VOOM intends to roll out an HD-DVR this year... assuming they survive. I am a big VOOM fan and will strongly consider it once my "in-between houses" situation is resolved.

I am not going to VOOM anytime int he near future, they are to new and are still Satalite. I have Satalite for NFL games, and my signal is OK at best, after having it serviced, it did not improve. I will wait and see what new HD stations TW offers, up until the next football season, then will see what options are out there.

"I don't see how lame programming repeated at nasua trumps the big networks. These stations are not laying down the bucks to get the big events... SuperBowl, Daytona500, MarchMadness, Masters, Olympics. After the first month the luster of Discovery, INHD and HDnet seems to have worn off for me." ------------------------------------------------------------------------------
HDnet has an agrement with the NHL for hockey fans. INHD has an agreement with MLB, 3 games per week.

HDnet also cost 3.95 a month on TWC... WTF is that!?!
You must also factor in the Highly desirable primetime programming offered by NBC and CBS. Hey if old episodes of Hogan's Heroes and Charlies Angels managed to get current ratings you'd have a point, but they don't.

I'd rather pay $3.95 than have an ugly antenna on my roof. The point of cable and satellitte TV was to get out of the antenna days.

No, the point of Cable and Satellite was to offer MORE channels and BETTER picture quality than Analog OTA Reception.
HDTV via OTA threatens that becasue it is the clearest picture you can get, better than via Cable or Satellite because both those mediums will screw with the signal to get it onto their delivery systems. It also gives OTA's the ability to offer multiple channels, another threat to cable.
If you're OK with $3.95 for HDnet (and I am not) then you should also call Peter Taubkin at TWC and tell him you are willing to pay $0.60/Mo extra to guarantee that you get all 6 local Broadcasters in HD.
If CBS, NBC and WB said they would give the signal to TWC for 1 cent, TWC would still refuse. They are being THAT stubborn.
Hate those three stations all you want- If you want to see their HD programming then either TWC will have ante-up or you will have to go OTA.
I refuse to pay $10 for a movie ticket... unless of course it's a movie I'm dying to see.... Content is King, and that's business.

How many consumers do you think that buy HDTV's at say Circuit City, Best Buy or Tweeters actually want to fuss with an antenna to watch HD? Aiming the antenna to the proper towers, worrying about amplification, or over amping, needing a rotor. The list goes on, Joe Six Pack wants simple operation.
I bet that you are the only one out of 20 that take WRGB & WNYT's side. Is it because you are employed by one them?

It is not because I am employed by one of them. It's a matter of Business Ethics in today's marketplace.
There's no question 6 & 13 would prefer to be on TWC in HD. But they cannot simply cave-in and give it away for nothing at all. Furthermore, they cannot allow sub-channels to be stripped-off if TWC doesn't like them.
To give it away now would set the precedent for the life of HDTV. When TV went color, as so many of my opponents would point to, there was at most 3 stations in a market, no cable, no satellite. Competition was small. Now you have all these cable channels, more local affiliates, satellite viewers, plus cable is selling commercial airtime as well. There's also web stuff taking away viewership... lowering ratings... lowering ad rates. It's diffirent today in 2004. Cable has an absolute monopoly in this market, if you want cable, but are not happy with TWC, you're stuck. Trust me, there's PLENTY of profit in your cable bill to pay the pittance these stations are fighting for.

Seems to me its case of "a plague on both your houses"....its in the Station's best financial interests and TWC's best financial interests to get this signal out...for better or worse cable is the "conduit to the masses"...as someone else said Joe Sixpack doesn't want to mess aroud with antennas and additional set top boxes...he just wants to turn the set on and see stuff...perhaps the best way for this all to resolve would be if TV mfrs start buying up cable systems and place emphasis on HDTV reception to "move" units...you know that worked pretty well 40 years ago for RCA and color tv's....

thanks to all of you for your comments to my first question, i now know why i cant get 6 and 13 on Time Warner in HD, and i still say that I will NOT pay extra for the few mins of HDTV they provide, if they upgraded their equipment and it cost them thousands, dont look to Time Warner to help you out, you charge them and they hike my bill. I will never install any device to obtain an HD signal from 6 or 13 or anyone else, i have cable to get rid of that eye sore. Its too bad that 6 and 13 spent all that money to upgrade and about 6 people get to see this signal because these stations are just GREEDY. I'm NO fan of Time Warner (with all their constant price increases and the fact that they are a monopoly) but d**n it this time i hope they stick to their guns and do not pay 6 and 13!!!!

Couldn't have said it better! I would love to know how many people actually got to see the Superbowl in HD. WRGB knows that if they gave TWC permission to broadcast their HD signal they would have reached many more viewers.

"WRGB knows that if they gave TWC permission to broadcast their HD signal they would have reached many more viewers"
I'm willing to bet that WRGB reached the same amount of viewers than if they gave the HD signal to TWC.
The ratings, and therefore the revenue for the station would not change for an event of that magnitude if they didn't offer it in HD at all.
And it looked great in HD in my house. And it cost me nothing new, since I already had a HD Satelite STB.

i'm getting so tired of the comments by masterfx, he misses the point all the time and its getting annoying. It so obvious that he works for 6 or 13 and cares nothing about people that do NOT. If you were to listen to him we would all be paying lots more in cable fee's just to get local HD signals, or we would all have some sort of antenna's on our roofs or hanging out our windows, thats technology from the 60's. I have cable so that i can have as few wires and connections as possible, we all just want plug and play, i dont wanna worry about my antenna falling down or having it in the right direction. WAKE up 6 and 13 your HD signal is going NOWHERE, how do you like your investment so far!!!
