I am not sure of the version, but I hear that the latest in SARA lets one enter a channel number to turn the box on. Exciting for those of us who wish for discrete codes. Any news here??

Rochester TWC received a new SARA software update today (1.87.16.109). Look for our DVR's to receive it soon.

Noticed a new menu today, but it still lists the same SARA version: 1.87.23.1
Looks like there is an interactive menu that lets you pay your bill on your TV, similar to the hotel checkout systems that have been around for some time.
The new menu will also give you current weather, local news headlines, and movies & times from your local theater.

Craig To follow up, we can now do this. Try it out -- anter a channel # and the box will turn on and go to that channes, or just enter "0" and the box will turn on and go to where you were last time. Put the macro on your remote and you have a discrete "ON" code. Craig

Craig This does work, but you need to go to the second "settiings " menu and select the "Power plus channel" (or something like that) as a way to turn the box on. Any channel number will then turn the box on, and go that channel. To turn off, use a macro of Channel # followed by "power". Ignore what I said about using channel 0. I have these macros set up and they work just fine on my 8300HD Craig

Tonight I noticed the fonts on the channel info were different. Looks like there was a software update since my box was rebooted. Version showing is 1.88.17.1 There are new features... "In addition to fixing the "drop to live" bug, 1.88.x.x also adds a fourth FF/RW speed, enables Firewire, adds Stop -> View from Beginning on recordings in progress, and a few other features / bug fixes I can't remember ..." www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?p=7403743&post7403743

Hmmm, I could've sworn the drop to live bug was fixed a LONG time ago (at least I'm 99% sure it was fixed on my SA8000 HD when I'd turned it in for the "upgrade" to the 8300).
Now if only they could program the thing to be reliable. I swear, this DVR from TW has got to be the biggest pile I've ever seen.
Doesn't record stuff for no apparent reason. Stops recording randomly in the middle of shows (although I'm convinced now that this is due to TW sending down upgrades at like 7 and 9:00 p.m. at night).
I used to think I really needed to record HDTV. But this thing is so unreliable, I think I'll return it, save some money and just watch it "live".

In addition to fixing the "drop to live" bug, 1.88.x.x also adds . . . Stop -> View from Beginning on recordings in progress . . . Last night, I was watching the Daily Show while I was recording it. There was no "Stop, View From Beginning" feature, and it kicked me to live at 11:30. I've also noticed that if you're watching a recorded program, change the channel, and then return to the recorded program, it defaults to the beginning. It used to pick up where you left off as long as you didn't select a different recorded program. At least the new top speed forward/reverse gets you back where you were really fast.

OK, I figured out how to get to "Stop, View From Beginning" (press list, then the program being recorded). Is there something I should have done to not get "dropped to live?" Also, today the recorded programs DO pick up where I left off.

Is there something I should have done to not get "dropped to live? Ever since the recent SARA update, I do not get kicked out of a recording when the LIVE version ends.

Don't know when it happened or what it changed, but my 8300HD lists the SARA version as 1.88.19.1.
From DoubleDAZ at the AVS Forum:
New Features In Version 1.88.x.x. NOTE: Some of these may or may not be applicable to your particular cableco.
Enhanced HDD Spin Down - After 15 minutes of inactivity between 1:00am and 1:15am, the HDD will spin-down without powering off the STB, and a screen saver with an MSO configurable logo/graphic will be displayed while the HDD is spun-down. If an external SATA HDD is attached to the DVR, it will also spin down when the internal HDD spins down.
Currently Recording Option - When the user selects a currently recording program from the Recorded List, DVR will always display a Currently Recording Program Options screen with “Play from beginning” as the default highlighted option.
Kick Out To Live - Let's say you schedule the recording of a program and go out for dinner. When you get home, you begin watching the recorded program from the beginning while the rest is still recording. When the recording ends, you are no longer 'kicked out' of your viewing.
Live Of Time Shifted Video Indicator – Added the API for indicating whether user is watching Live or time-shifted video.
Activated Front Panel AUX Input - Front panel auxiliary input is activated.
Macrovision On AUX Input – Turned on the macrovision protection on AUX input.
Return To Live Button - While watching a DVR recording playback, pressing the LIVE remote button will tune the last Live TV channel that was previously viewed.
4th FFWD/REW Speed – Adds a 4th fast forward and rewind trick mode speed at 128x. A fourth arrow will be displayed on the trick mode banner for each direction.
Broadcast Flag – Broadcast flag is activated.
1394 Support On 8300HD – 1394 port is active on 8300 HD boxes.
Improved Picture Quality With "Copy to VCR" Recording - This was inadvertently broken in version 1.87.19a and then inadvertently fixed in version 1.87.27, which was not widely released. Most users are probably seeing it with version 1.88.x.x, so it has been included in ths list even though it is not a new feature.
Bugs Remaining In 1.88.x.x (Not all-inclusive)
Turns On In 480i Mode - If the General Settings/Viewer: Power On is set to an HD channel or Last Channel (if that was HD), the unit will be in 480i mode when you turn it on. If you then tune to an SD channel and back, it will change to the correct HD mode. However, this can be minimized by setting the Power On option to an SD channel. It will then power up in the correct mode and change to HD when you tune to an HD channel. Another workaround is too simply cycle through the zoom modes using the # button.
Start From Beginning/Kick Out To Live - If you select a recording in progress from the Recorded List, you will get a Start From Beginning option. If you select this, you can watch the recording through to the end without getting "kicked out to live" when the live program ends. However, if you simply tune to the desired program, rewind to the beginning, you will still get "kicked out to live" when the program ends.
Padding Start/Stop Times - You can alter Start/Stop times for scheduled recordings that are set for more often than once a week. However, any changes have to be made while scheduling these recordings. Once scheduled, they will have to be cancelled and rescheduled with any desired changes. Changes for weekly or less frequent recordings will only be applied to the next scheduled recording and not saved for future recordings.
Note: This works in 1.88.19.1 and 1.88.22.1, but is known to not work in some other 1.88.x.x. versions.
