Anyone know if TW makes a HD STB that does firewire output? (I searched the board for "firewire" and it came back empty)

I searched, but couldn't find anything. I doubt it's possible, but is there any way to get a show from the 8300 HD to a PC? There was a show on Discovery HD (Road Trips - New York Edition) that showcased my house, so I wanted to save it, but I don't have a standalone DVD Recorder

Last night, at 9:02PM, I noticed my 8300HD DVR was not in "recording" mode even though I have Desperate Housewives scheduled to record. So, I figured the box screwed up (again) and immediately hit the record button on the remote with the intent to record Desperate Housewives. When I pressed the "A" button to confirm the recording, I received the following screen: Typically, I would receive this screen when I already have 2 scheduled recordings and attempt to record a third. I then took a look at my list of scheduled recordings and received this screen: Wow, was I suprised to see ALL of my scheduled recordings had disappeared!!! Luckily, I have a SONY DVR that I use to record OTA and was able to watch Desperate Housewives. I have learned from many previous instances when the 8300 DVR fails to record the programs I have scheduled that I need a backup DVR. Otherwise, I would be S.O.L. Did anyone else experience anything like this? TWC SARA 1.89.17.1

I used to have the same thing happen. But I got rid of my sucky 8300. Stick with my Series 2 Tivo and have been playing with mythTV for HD content.

Last night, I did a hard reset, where I unplugged the box and then plugged it back in. The scheduled recordings reappeared.

Is it common for the screen to get all weird when it changes resolutions? I have all my HD content set to 1080i and all my SD content set to 480p. When it goes between resolutions, the screen goes crazy for about 3 seconds. I know it's not the tv because I have other HD sources that don't do anything when the resolution changes.

I'll try setting to pass-through and see what happens. I have a Samsung HL-S5087W 1080p set with the 8300HD connected to the HDTV with HDMI. Had to set the audio to Dolby Digital in the settings to get 5.1 to my receiver since my HDTV only accepts 2ch audio over HDMI.

The only resolutions I have enabled in the setup wizard are 1080i and 480p

The data on the DVR is encrypted. No way that I know of the get it to a PC. Best bet is to save it to VHS or DVD. There is another thread about copying to DVD and keeping the 16:9 screen ratio here: Trick to do Wide Screen DVDs from SA8300HD

When I turned on my 8300HD DVR today, it started up on channel 0001. I had it set to power up on channel 1869.
I thought maybe TWC sent a SARA update, but it is still 1.89.17.1.

Is there any way other than pressing the # key on the remote to change the HD Zoom settings? I have the 8300HD and have had it for six months now with no problem. I have it set to Auto DVI/HDMI and have it hooked to my tv with an HDMI cable. I have it set to show SD channels in 480p and HD channels in whatever resolution the channel is broadcasting at (720p or 1080i).
I was watching SD channels today and it was fine, with the black vertical bars on the sides. I switched to 1806 CBSHD to watch the news tonight and saw that Ellen filled the whole screen. I thought maybe they had gone to HD but then the news came on and filled the whole screen as well. I checked and this is happening on all of the HD channels. All of the news programs, which aren't in HD and should have the vertical bars, fill the screen. Programs in true HD are too wide and the sides of the screen are cut off. When I press the # key to try to fix this nothing happens and I can't see anywhere in the settings to try to fix this. The SD channels still have the bars but all of the HD channels are stretched, no matter if that channel is broadcasting at 720 or 1080. I just watched MSGHD last night and it was fine so this must have happened today. I also notice when I press guide, that it shows up with the vertical bars (like it should) and the channel being shown in the top right has the vertical bars as well. I'm stumped. I know I didn't accidentally press the # key on the remote today because there weren't any batteries in it. I was pressing buttons on the box itself today to see how many SDV channels there were through the diagnostic menu but that is it.
Any help would be greatly appreciated as this is extremely frustrating.

Nevermind, I bit the bullet and did a hard reset and everything seems to be fixed now.
