I think the bluetooth is only for the QWERTY remote, which apparently isn't even coming out til fall anyways (and will set you back up to $100). This Engadget review just re-affirms what a disappointment this is. Doesn't mean I won't get one since I'll need another DVR and am eligible for the lifetime discount and cashback, but I was expecting waaay more.

I just ordered a 60" Aquos from Sears which should be arriving tomorrow, and decided it is finally time to venture away from built-in speakers. I don't need anything fancy, and don't want to pay for anything fancy. Just something that makes what you're watching stand out a little more. I'm not a real big audio guy, and don't know a whole lot about what to look for, but after a quick search on Newegg, these seemed to be about what I wanted to pay, and both got good reviews: YAMAHA YHT-391BL 5.1-Channel Home Theater System www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16882115198SONY HT-SS360 5.1-Channel Home Theater System www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16882105291Anyone have any suggestions/comments for me? I'd appreciate it. Thanks

If you want to stream using other software, you should be able to do so. WHS is WIndows Server 2003, if it runs on Server 2003, it should run on WHS. Part of the value add that HP provides with their MediaSmart servers is a licensed copy of TwonkyMedia Server. Twonky will stream video, pictures, and music to other devices. It supports DLNA, and there are plenty of devices that can use DLNA. I bought my HP for the backups, being able to view all my pictures in HD on my TV was just icing on the cake. If you just want to do backups, then the Acer or one of the cheaper HP models will do the job. If you plan on doing media stuff on it, I would spend the extra quatloos and get the dual core HP. Yeah pretty much what I'm looking for is a centralized file server, that I can easily access remotely, run a few programs on it (SABnzbd for usenet, and also run a bit torrent client), and then being able to stream 1080p mkv's over the network to my popcorn hour, and PC. I also like the backup functionality of WHS. Right now I've got my workstation doing all of this right now, and I just want to get it all off my PC onto a server to do it all, so my workstation is just a workstation. Is what I'm asking too much for one of the atom based WHS's, or do I need to bite the bullet and buy one of the beefier WHS's like the HP dual core unit that you have?

While you don't get the full media server functionality of Windows 7, HP does provide a licensed copy of Twonky with their MediaSmart servers. I can access music/video/pictures from my ESX495 on my TV set through a WD TV Live HD box. If TiVo ever goes under (how many quarters can they lose money before it finally ends?), I think I would switch to a Windows 7 box with a Ceton card. d**n that Ceton card looks pretty badass. If I was building an HTPC, I think I'd try and build it around that thing for sure. I was thinking about getting one of those WHS boxes, either one of the HP models or the Acer easystore. While it may not have special media sharing software on it, there's no reason they wouldn't allow a device capable of SMB streaming like a popcorn hour to stream media from it, right?

www.tivo.com/products/tivo-premiere/index.html"Inventing the DVR was just a warmup" I don't get it. This thing is just a polished Series 3. Yeah there's a new UI, which is nice, but from what I've read it isn't anything fancy, just a little re-worked, and widescreen. No fancy animations or anything. It is cool your show is always displayed now when you're in the menu, and I definitely would prefer it over what we have now, but come on, that's it? It can still only record 2 shows at once. Plus they are now bragging it can play netflix/blockbuster/amazon/youtube, but so can the Series 3. I just slingbox'd home and checked, since I don't subscribe to any of those services and it doesn't really apply to me anyways. Can it even stream video from your PC now without 3rd party trickery? This thing is a modest update to the Series 3 at best, certainly not a revolutionary upgrade from the Series 3. I'm hoping I'm missing something here, because this looks like a big disappointment, especially since TiVo users have been waiting years for a new TiVo.

So my friend got cable installed last week and they gave him a 8460hdc...branded by Cisco rather than SA. He mentioned it had the navigator interface after I explained what it was. I went into the Albany office today and asked to exchange for the 8640 and they had them in stock. So I now have a Navigator box! You can just go in there and exchange to a model of your choice? Did they even ask why?

I must be the odd man out because I almost never have cable card / tuning adapter problems. I think we've had them now around a year now, and I've maybe had to power cycle my tuning adapter 2 or 3 times total, which I don't think is that bad. And peekb is right, even if you had to do it once a month it is still better than using TW's dvr.

BTW I love TWC's chart for speed and pricing on which subscription can do what. Last time I checked 10Mb down and 1Mb up was [way] more than enough for online gaming, video conferencing, and streaming videos. I skype with family all the time, and who can't stream youtube or netflix because they only have 10Mb? Gizmodo just did a story today about these ISPs and their BS charts trying to sell non-techie people on the higher bandwidth packages that don't need it.. thought I'd share: gizmodo.com/5432332/basically-every-isp-is-trying-to-scare-you-into-paying-for-internet-you-dont-need

Liz Bishop in HD is kind of scary, though. ;D glad I'm not the only one with that same opinion ;D

I watch CBS 6 cause of the HD.. just easier on the eyes when you're used to watching everything else in HD.

I know obv this doesn't apply to the free tivo, but how does the S series compare? G series just have more bells and whistles? I ask because Sears is having what appears to be a pretty decent sale on these ($1099.99), especially if you throw in some bing cashback. Only problem is none of the local sears have them in stock, but I have a buddy that works at Sears down in long island and he's pretty confident he could order one and have it sent up to the albany store. here's the link: www.sears.com/shc/s/p_10153_12605_05710446000P?mv=rr

Oh ok, didn't realize that standard RR subscribers got powerboost now. That might explain it, since I've run speedtest a few times now and it's gotten up to 20Mb, but also 15Mb, and 12Mb. BTW I love TWC's chart for speed and pricing on which subscription can do what. Last time I checked 10Mb down and 1Mb up was [way] more than enough for online gaming, video conferencing, and streaming videos.
