I went and did another scan and now I have the channels again though though CW and NBC break up if I try to watch them. Their customer service people telling me I MUST use a box to get HD is ratehr annoying and once I get everything straightened out I will wirte a complaint letter to the FCC.
I think my current issues are more signal strength related than anything else. I tried using the DVR ot record soemthing tonight and all I got was a pixellated mess. The impression I got from the guy today was that if I wanted any more signal strength than he was able to give me today I will have to sacrifice having cable in the other rooms. I can't believe that they can't adjust signal strength enough to have to have it go to 3 rooms.

When I had poor cable TV signal strength a few years ago, I called TWC and the tech installed a powered amplifier at no cost to me. Shown below is a photo of the actual amplifier TWC installed in my basement. The statements by the TWC customer service reps that you must have a TWC issued cable box to get HD channels is just plain wrong. They are under-informed and pass along this information as gospel. That's one of the reasons I started this website.

What's funny (although not really) is that TW installed a powered amp for me and it's been fine for 5 years. Then I started getting pixelation on only 4 channels.
As soon as I'd call and schedule a service call, the problem would go away.
Then about 2 weeks later it would happen again (always JUST the same 4 channels).
Repeat the above cycle for several months.
Then I got cable card and it showed the signal strength for those channels at like 34%
So they send someone out. "The signal is WAY too strong" he says. Who installed this powered amplifier, he says. I'm like, Uh, you guys did, and it's been fine for years.
Obviously they changed "something" so they removed the amplifier.
A few weeks later, problem shows up again. Always Just the same 4 channels and nothing else.
Come out again. Oh, this signal is WAY too strong. So they put a reducer (or whatever the hell it's called.) Looks like a splitter with no amplifier and they only connected one end of the split to the Tivo.
How weird.

Well I am nopw getting all of the cable box and the broadcast plus quite a few digital on my TV's tuner. Except that I do not get the CW in HDTV during primetime on either. When I try to tune it in on eitehr the box or my TV all I get is a black screen. I am going to check it agian on Mon night and if it still isn't there they will be making another service call. I also have issues with the DVR giving me a black screen for any show that I watched part of while it was recording. If I try to restart the recording though it will eventually show up (or at least the show from lasdt night did)
Last year they ran a dedicated line to the second floor but mine still comes in on the old line. It is split between my apt and the first floor. I started having trouble when someone moved into the firts floor. There may also be splitters in place for the basement apt which no longer exists (they gutted it).

For the black screen CWHD, try going into the STB diagnostic menu and scan through the pages, see if there is an orange word "Unlocked" on one of the pages. That means the signal for that channel is being blocked for some reason. If it says "Locked" in white, you're receiving the signal fine. If it is Unlocked, you should call TW and tell them, although the CSR probably won't know what you're talking about since whenever I've called and said a channel says its unlocked they don't know what it means.

Had a lead tech out on Friday afternoon. After the usual call to the "head end", the second of the 2 CCs he brought resolved the issue. In between swapping the cards, I did notice that the local OTA HD signals were being received, so somehow the CC must've been interfering.

How do I get into the diagnostic menu?
At one point I was only losing CW part fo the time but now all I get is black on 1815 no matter when I try it.

Skaggs, it was Mark H that came out on Friday, though Bob W, Jim R, and Doug C have all been out at least once. Mark's been out the past couple of times, and Bob was out in February.

Bob W is the supervisor of the techicians. Chris K is his assistant.

I checked the diagnostic pages and it said Locked in white. I called TW and they said that my box was having trouble receiving that particular frequency and siad it was probably a bend in the line or some such thing. They are sending someone out on Friday to fix it. In the mean time they had me reboot the box and that partially fixed the issue. I now get 1815 but it occasionally breaks up. 1813 was fine before but now it is breaking up slightly.
