Were they back on the original 18.08 or still on 102.07? I hate it when they change because there's both no warning, nor is there a listing that I can find telling where they went. It takes a while for my set to rescan the channels in, and longer for me to really remember where they are. What's the benefit in so much shifting?

Well I just rescanned my TV and all I can find are CBS and PBS. CW shows up on 18-15 but when I try to watch I get signal not available. NBC, ABC, and Fox have simply vanished.
My TV doesn't have a cable card (Last fall when I bought it very few plasma seemed to have them anymore). So does this mean I must now break down and get a box from TW? Or it just be a signal level issue? Someone else jsut moved into an empty apt so my signal levels may be lower than they should be (has happened before).

18.08 isn't a physical location, from what I know, it's just the station ID. When the physical channel moved from 105 to 102, you have to scan 102 and pull in all the channels located there. If you have the ability to scan only one channel instead of all of them that's obviously the quickest thing to do.
As far as why they moved, I don't have an answer. We're at the mercy of Time Warner.

If you can scan single channels I'd scan 102. Unless your TV has an issue with interpreting that particular channel as digital it should discover them.

I tried rescanning again and the channels are stil missing. There is no way to scan jsut a certain channel. My optiosn are all , analog only, and digital only. I tried emailing TW. They told me to rescan. When I emailed back saying I had tried to rescan they told me to call them. I haven't done that yet.

OK. I just called TW and they said that I was not supposed to be getting any of the HD channels without a cable box. So I guess I am stuck getitng a box finally. The sales rep said that they might have changed the encryption on the channels and that is why I can no longer get them.
Hopefully when everything goes digital next year I can find a way to get rid of it again because I hate having a tuner and not being able to use it.

So putting the two things they said together...they changed the encryption on those channels so you couldn't get them without a STB. That's messed up.

They are required, by FCC law to pass the locals in unencrypted format (actually the FCC reg on that has been a bit vague). That would mean: 1805, 1808, 1810, 1811, 1813, and 1815 you should receive "in the clear".

The TWC customer service reps are clueless. You should be able to get the unencrypted QAM local HD channels with basic cable.

Yeah that is what I tried to tell them. I was recieving 1806, 1808, 1810, 1811, and 1813 in the clear. Now only 1806 and 1811. They told me that they don't allow anything but their own equipment to hook up to the network. I actually mentioned the FCC thing but they ignored the comment
I actually took a cable box and when I hooked it up I still couldn't get the HD channels. It winds up being that the signal is too low for the HD stations to come in. SO now on Wed an time warner tech will be coming to check the signal strength.

I agree that you should push TW to do whatever they need to to let you receive digital broadcast channels on your clear QAM receiver, and don't accept their guff that you shouldn't be getting them. They're part of the service you're paying for with even a Basic subscription.
However, have you tried an antenna to receive the OTA broadcasts? I don't recall if you've said where you are or if you're in a house or apartment, which might limit what you can do OTA, but if you can get halfway decent analog reception, maybe with some snow and/or ghosts, there's a good chance you can get excellent digital reception.

I'm still having this same issue as well. One of the lead techs tried to have the head end run a script (or whatever voodoo goes on there), but of course that didn't work. So the tech will be out this week.

Well teh cable guy was here today and I can now watch the HD channels over TW's box. The signal was way too low and he was able to adjust thinsg enough to get the box to work. I tried rescanning my TV afetrwards (have it conencted afetr the VCR) and the only HDs channels it can get are still CBS and PBS. So all I can guess is TW put some sort of encryption on NBC, ABC, and Fox

I'd suggest that pmp and crash55 file a formal complaint with the FCC as TW is supposed to send those signals unencrypted (ie, without having to use a Cable Card or STB).
