Univision Partners with Time Warner Cable to Offer Leading Spanish-Language Television Programming
LOS ANGELES--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 31, 2005--Univision Communications Inc. (NYSE:UVN), the nation's leading Spanish-language media company, and Time Warner Cable, the nation's second-largest cable television provider with 11 million subscribers, today announced they have reached a multi-year agreement to offer all of Univision's television products - the Univision Network, TeleFutura Network and Galavision Network - to Time Warner Cable's customers nationwide.
This wide-ranging partnership provides Time Warner Cable with access to the Univision networks and broadcast stations. Time Warner Cable will begin offering the TeleFutura Network to its customers in the Corpus Christi, Raleigh, San Diego, Harlingen, Laredo, Palm Springs and Philadelphia divisions. Additionally, the Galavision Network is expected to be rolled out in Waco, Rochester, Raleigh, Milwaukee, Greensboro, Northeast and Western Ohio, and Nebraska. The Univision broadcast network will continue to be carried throughout Time Warner Cable's footprint, including its Los Angeles, New York, Houston, San Antonio and San Diego divisions.
"We are thrilled to offer the unparalleled programming of Univision Networks to an even greater Hispanic audience through this partnership with Time Warner Cable," said Tim Krass, Executive Vice President, Affiliate Relations. "We applaud Time Warner for recognizing the importance of Spanish-language television and Univision Networks' unparalleled ability to reach the ever-growing Hispanic community."
"Time Warner Cable strives to provide a diverse array of programming options to meet the extensive interests and needs of our customers. With Univision Networks' extremely popular programming now available to Time Warner Cable, we can deliver even greater value and programming choice to our growing Hispanic consumer base," said Lynne Costantini, Time Warner Cable senior vice president of programming.
The Univision Television Network is the nation's most-watched Spanish-language broadcast television network and the fifth most-watched full-time network overall, competing head-to-head with the English-language television networks in primetime seven nights a week. As the first and foremost Spanish-language broadcast television network in the U.S., the Univision Network attracts more Hispanics during each broadcast hour than any other network - English or Spanish language. As Hispanic America's Home of the Stars, the Univision Network consistently broadcasts the 25 most popular shows among all Hispanics.
TeleFutura, launched in January 2002, was created to provide a new range of viewing choices to U.S. Hispanics. TeleFutura's programming is distinct from that of Univision Communications' other television networks and its Spanish and English-language competitors, as it airs alternative genres during nearly every daypart. From its first day on the air, TeleFutura has been a notable success, expanding the overall viewing of Spanish-language television by U.S. Hispanics. In three years, TeleFutura has become the # 2 Spanish-language network in several dayparts and continues to experience growth during every broadcast hour. TeleFutura attracts an audience that is younger than all other Spanish-language broadcast networks and significantly younger than the four major English-language networks.
First launched in 1979, the Galavision Network is the # 1 cable network for Hispanics in the U.S., offering 24-hours of unique, first run programming for the entire family each day. Since the launch of a new all-Spanish-language programming schedule in May 2002, the Network has achieved record viewership levels, including double-digit growth in key dayparts. The Galavision Network's programming is the live, direct connection to the people, places and events that matter most to Hispanic America.
