I have two Scientific Atlanta 8300HD DVR's in my house. After a recent software update, I began experiencing a problem with both boxes. I've always had the "last channel" selected as the "power-on" channel. But after this update, the 8300 now reverts to channel 01 on power-up even though "last channel" is selected. Alternately, if I reprogram the box to use a specific channel on power-on, it does start with the selected channel. I've rebooted the box by two methods, and that has not resolved the issue. I have noted that this problem generally occurs when the box has been off for several hours. I have also reconfigured the settings for both "power-save" on or off and that didn't change the outcome. Maybe I can use this as leverage for a new box. But aside from that, does anyone have any suggestions?

Well, it's been over one year since I posted my original question. So, I guess that means I'll have to answer myself. The problem I describe above still occurs. Only now, I find that the box will switch channels over night when it's not powered on. On power-up, the box will be on a channel I've never watched. I finally called Time Warner just yesterday. They basically have no clue what's causing this. All they can suggest is that it may have something to do with their nightly updates to the box. These updates don't necessarily result in a re-boot, but may be causing the box to randomly change channels when powered off. Why it may be doing this, they can't say.
