I had a Verizon technician over to the house today and he said that they have all of the DVR and STB boxes in house and they should start taking orders on March 25th. The DVRs in stock are the 7216 models. That's a bit unfortunate, other markets are getting the 7232. The 7232 has a 500 Gb hard drive, which means 50+ hours of HD recording. It also appears that the 7216s had some "issues".

FIOS install this Friday, they are taking orders. They took my order for the triple play Tuesday but wouldn't do the install before this Saturday. Just for reference this is what I ended up with Internet - 25/25 TV, Extreme HD + multiroom DVR + 1 additonal box Phone $89/month 1-12 $109/month 13-24 No term commitment

Let us know if the triple play is VOIP (digital voice I think Verizon used to call it) or if it's a regular landline
Also, let us know what your taxes are on the phone.
I ask because on my verizon line has an extra $10 in taxes on it (vs. my Vonage which I think was $3-5)
Also SUPPOSEDLY (this came from TW, so I suspect the source) because verizon is a telco, even their VOIP service is subject to the $10 taxes and fees.

They are not offering a VOIP service. The phone service is going to be the existing Freedom Essentials plan that is currently being offered.
On the plus side, the sale agent that took my order for FiOS TV said that they would be supplying the Motorola 7232 DVR's, not the 7216.

If I look at my order on the Verizon site it says:
Phone - FIOS Digital Voice Unlimited We'll see after the install...

If that's the case, my Slingbox would produce a great picture on remote devices instead of using the crappy 1 M up now from TWC. Any idea of the additional cost for Showtime, Starz, Cinemaz, HBO, etc? What does the "Pay this much" line say at the bottom of your bill for the $89 package? (i.e. how much for taxes, fees, etc.?)

The two issues for me are:
How does FiOS handle the Cable cards for my TiVos? In other words, what are the CCI Byte settings?
I'll obviously lose Capital News 9 and TW3 for local sports (Syracuse University and Siena College sports). I think I could still get a bare bones cable service from TWC that includes these channels for $7/month +/-.

I'd be interested to learn what happens when you call TWC and tell them you need to shut off their service because you are getting FiOS Triple Play.
What offer will the "Retention Specialists" give you?

Install went great. The installers told me I was the second install in the area. Picture is great.

Losing TW3 will probably be the biggest loss for dropping TWC. Unless VZ has a package that offeres college sports, we lose the Syracuse games.

I agree with Chris. No CCI and that nasty SDV (po's me)
Hopefully in a few months, Colonie will get it. I had to work late on Thursday, so was unable to attend the meeting.

chris, did you have to get an actual Verizon router then?
I have FIOS internet and use my own router (netgear) as I detested their Actiontec POS that died about 16 months later (they wanted to charge me $200 to replace it).
but I've heard rumor that if you get TV service, you HAVE to use their ActionTec router ==something about MOCA?

I don't have mine yet, it gets installed on Monday. I bought a new Netgear router last month, I plan on putting it in front of the Actiontec router after the installer has left. You absolutely need the Actiontec somewhere in the configuration, otherwise the Verizon supplied set top boxes and DVR's would be unable to get their data. It's the MOCA bridge from the ONT to the router and from the router to the STB's. There are a few ways of making the Actiontec work along side your own router. DSLReports.com has a FAQ on the various combinations that you can try. I've been watching their forums for while, people are having mixed success with using their own router as the primary. It sounds doable, but will take some time to get it rights. The simplest solution is put your own router behind the Actiontec, on it's own subnet. This is the Verizon supported setup. All of the FiOS TV features will work, but you will be unable to share data between VZ's DVR and your own PC. I will do this until the installer walks out the door. I will try one of the combinations of using my router as the primary and the ActionTec as secondary. There is a crazy combination that uses 2 of your own routers plus the Actiontec. This combination gives the Actiontec the same IP address as the primary router and VZ only sees the Actiontec. That's documented here. I still have my old router, running as an access point and VPN, so I may try this one.

Yeah, I had a setup like that a while back. Basically you end up doing double NAT and that breaks a LOT of things. Rats. I just don't like the fact that the ActionTec lets Verizon do "whatever" they want to the router without telling you (firmware upgrades, etc.) Plus the original model I had it would ONLY let you do: 192.168.x.x IP and nothing else. Plus back then it only had like 802.11g wireless.
Oh, and also if the router dies, you have to pay for a replacement unless you opted for the $5/month "warranty" fee.
but hopefully they've changed their tune since then. I'm not about to fork out $200 for a replacement router if theirs dies again.
