Just checked the resolution for Packers-Bears and it's 1080i. When did Fox make the change?

I just checked with TSReader Lite and WXXA is still 720p. Is it possible that your receiver was set to force 1080i output?

Nope, it's in native.

Fox did not switch to 1080i. Can you give us more info on your setup? What is the source? Cable Set Top, OTA, Dish, etc.? Is it running through an AVR? My guess is that something is upscaling the content to 1080i and outputting it that way to your display.
If you are using a Time Warner set top, you need to go in the menu and make sure "Auto Select" is checked in the Output Resolution setting.

I have a DirecTV HR24 HD-DVR feeding a Panasonic TC-S42S2 1080p plasma directly via HDMI. The plasma is set on native, so the plasma's "info" button shows the resolution of whatever channel I select, e.g., ESPN always shows 720p, WRGB and WNYT always show 1080i, Blu-ray shows 1080p. Starting with the Packers-Bears game Sunday, WXXA (23 on DirecTV, not 8 as does Time-Warner) shows 1080i. Before that, WXXA showed 720p. I checked again this morning. It's 1080i.

It is possible that DIRECTV re-encodes it as 1080i, I'll have to check. DIRECTV uses MPEG-4 for all HD so they re-encode all the streams so they may be actually converting it I don't know.

BTW, how do you like that HR24? I'm jealous, I'd like to trade my HR22s in for some 24s some day and my contract is up so I'm weighing my options. I've heard only good things (very fast) so I'm not sure what I'm waiting for I suppose

One other thing to check on a DIRECTV box is that even though you have it set for Native, make sure 720p is enabled as an available resolution in the setup screen, otherwise it'll avoid it even with the box set to Native.

I've heard only good things (very fast) so I'm not sure what I'm waiting for I suppose I'm new to DirecTV, but the H24 is light years ahead of the TW Cisco HD-DVR I just turned in (which, in turn, was way ahead of the Scientific Atlanta 8300 HD-DVR). Both the DVR and the HD receiver have a surprisingly small footprint. Go for it

As I said, my plasma is set to native. WTEN, all the ESPN channels, and some HBO channels, all show 720p on my "info" button, as well as on the blue resolution lights on the HR24. WXXA Channel 23 is showing 1080i.

Yup, I just checked my DIRECTV setup, which also has OTA (via a DIRECTV AM21 add-on): 6 (DTV) is 1080i 6-1 (antenna) is 1080i 10 (DTV) is 720p 10-1 (antenna) is 720p 13 (DTV) is 1080i 13-1 (antenna) is 1080i 23 (DTV) is 1080i 23-1 (antenna) is indeed 720p So ya, they must be re-encoding it differently from the OTA feed. Weird.

I've had sporadic pixelation on the locals from the satellite on two different receivers lately, anyone else having this problem?

They had "we will be back soon" slates up on some of the locals this morning so maybe they are fixing stuff--or changing out hardware or something. Maybe FOX will go back to 720p

It's been happening on them all 6, 13, 23. We'll see.
