In order to experience 3D viewing, viewers need a 3D TV with matching 3D glasses and a compatible Time Warner Cable HD or HD/DVR set-top box connected to their TV with an HDMI cable. For more information, or to sign up, customers can call 1-800-TWCABLE.
Channel listing and availability will vary by market and region.
By now, most of us have given 3D viewing a try. Whether it’s at Disney World or a local theatre, we’ve donned the crazy looking glasses and experienced the world in 3D. I saw an advertisement the other day for a 3D Christmas Tour. (Does that mean Santa’s belly really comes out at you?) Heck, these days you can get your baby ultrasound pictures in 3D, even 4D.
It’s the rage and probably on the holiday wish list of gadget gurus. My husband went to BJ’s the other day, where there were 3D TV sets on display and a line to try on the glasses and give it a try. It seems that’s what a bunch of shoppers are doing to get a glimpse.
Because he’s so practical, he said “Who would want to wear glasses all the time to watch TV”? That’s when I reminded him of his days before his laser eye surgery. But he did have a point: a lot of us multi-task while watching TV, so is it practical to put the glasses on and off?
Then I remembered back to my first experience in 3D programming on cable. I was watching the Masters in 3D and amazed that you could have this kind of viewing experience in your own living room. The contour of the greens was incredible. We had a viewing party for our customers and everyone walked away thinking “WOW.” Our 3D offerings from that event this summer have since expanded. In fact, just this past weekend, you could watch the Versus football matchup between Oregon and Cal in Berkeley, free to 3D TV set owners. A month or so ago it was NASCAR in 3D. And of course, now we’ve got ESPN 3D.
Last month, Time Warner Cable also announced a host of 3D movies On Demand available to 3D customers. So, if a 3D set is on someone’s Santa list or you need to replace a failing television in the near future, get your snazzy glasses ready when you turn on our cable box!
