So I was thinking about getting a Tivo premiere, they have a good offer right now, ($0 down, 19.99 a month, 2 year contract www.tivo.com/promo/gettivo/ ) was just wondering what I ould need from time warner cable? Im guessing a Tuning adapter, a Cable card? and thats it? Also I want to know th pricing do they charge you for a tuning adapter? cable card? whats my bill going to look like? Also whats the process I have to go though to get a tuner and cable card? ive read stuff about having time warner have to install, is this true I know how to make my own coaxial cables, and there already a hd box connected to where it will be going? and what tis I hear about having to wait for letters from them? Thanks so much!!!!

Thanks for posting this. This seems like a pretty good deal. I'm paying $18/month for TW's DVR and service. So if I could get a TiVo for an extra $2/month, it may be worth it. Plus, the deal apparently includes 6 free months of Netflix, which would save me $9/month for the next half year. This may finally push me over the edge to getting a TiVo. Here's the link in case anyone else is interested: www.tivo.com/promo/gettivo/

Yes, a TA and a Cable card. It will be $20 for the Cable Card install (TW does NOT let you install it yourself). And you'll have to wait until AFTER you get the cable card before they'll let you get a tuning adapter. So figure about 2 weeks in between before you can actually watch any TV other than non-SDV HD channels.
Personally I'm not fond of the Premier (still reading bad reviews on the Tivo forums). So I'm sticking with my Tivo HD for now.

This is a no-brainer now IMO since TW is raising the DVR service charge to $12.95 as of 10/15, according to a card I got from them in the mail yesterday. That, plus the $7 fee for the actual box means it's the same monthly price as the TiVo offer, with just the cost of the Cable Cards making the TiVo deal slightly more.
The TiVo deal expires Saturday FYI

I don't think that those offers are good for the $19.95 deal.

The $19.99/month deal is back: Get a TiVo Premiere DVR for $19.99 monthly CNET CheapskateLast month, TiVo borrowed a page from cell phone carriers, offering a TiVo Premiere box for $0 and $19.99/month with a two-year contract. It was supposed to be a one-week-only promotion, but obviously TiVo was happy with the results: the deal is back. Normally, buying a TiVo works like this: you drop $299.99 on the box (or $499.99 on the XL model), then pay $12.95 per month for service. (You also have the option of paying in advance for one year, three years, or life.) With the promo deal, you get the box more or less for free (even shipping is free), but your monthly nut jumps to $19.99. Math was never my strong suit, but I think it makes sense to do some here. For starters, if you amortize this out over two years, it comes to $479.76--$131.03 less than what you'd normally pay. Nice. After three years, you're in for $719.64, versus $766.19 for the traditional package. You're still ahead, but I'm sure you can see where this is going: Your four-year total comes to $959.52--about $40 more than the price of buying the box and a $12.95/month subscription. Of course, you can always pony up $399 for lifetime service, bringing your total TiVo costs to about $700--with no monthly fees to worry about. Obviously that's the way to go for anyone in it for the long haul. However, if you can't swing $700 but can scrape together 20 bucks every month, this is the lowest cost of TiVo entry I've seen. And the deal includes six months of Netflix service, a nice perk. Me, I was this close to getting a TiVo last month, but then I opted for the long-awaited Ceton InfiniTV 4 CableCARD adapter for my media center--and haven't looked back. Pricey, yes, but awe-some! What do you think of this deal? Too good to pass up, or yet another monthly bill you don't need?

The math he used in that article isn't correct beyond the two-year cost. After the two years is up, you can cancel the $19.99/mo. plan and get a subscription at the current (at that point) monthly rate. His three-year and four-year totals are based on the $19.99 price. The four-year price would actually be $790.xx, assuming the monthly price is still $12.95 two years from now (for argument's sake).
I ordered the TiVo through this offer last month (before the offer was extended) and I've been happy with it so far (other than needing to replace the first box, which kept rebooting). I'll finally get to try it out fully on Friday when TWC comes out to install the cable card/tuning adapter. The extra $54 savings for Netflix is a nice bonus. But the key to this deal for me was the $19.99 is what I was paying TWC for their DVR (based on the rate increase that just took effect), so I figured I'm getting the Tivo for the cost of the cable card for the next two years.

I went ahead and bit the bullet on the Tivo Premiere.
I scheduled for the cable card to also be installed the day after it will arrive 11/30. I was able to get Time warner to Waive the 17.95 it was going to be for the cable card install because I stressed to the customer service rep how many numerous problems I have encountered with the Samsung HD DVR. The box never recorded shows correctly, or late or 2 mins to early and sometimes just recording a black screen.
I explained to her the only reason im forced to get a Tivo is because the DVR that time warner provides never worked correctly, and that I typically work nights so I cannot watch any of my shows. So after about 15 mins on the phone she eventually waive the installation charge by giving me a credit for the amount of the install.
On a side note, I have no idea why, but its going to take 10 Days, thats right 10 days for UPS to get off there asses and deliver it from Texas to New York just ridiculous, the post office parcel is faster for god sakes. Tivo shipped it out on 11/19/10 on Friday and arrival date is 11/29/10. I know its soon to be the holiday season but it still a month and half away form Christmas and there this big of a delay from UPS.
But anyways I also filled out the form online for the tuning adapter. Does anyone know how long it takes to generally receive the letter from the day you fill it out? Also, does anything think I should have the letter by the time I get my tivo? Clifton park is like 5 mins from me so I can get my tuning adapter there as soon as the letter arrives.
I will be sure todo a full video review in HD of the tivo premiere on Time warner cable for albany.

I think it's about a week, but for them to issue the letter, they will check to see if you have a cable card. Your cart is before the horse, at least in Time Warner's view.

Note that the tuning adapters are now part of regular stock at TW centers and you SHOULD be able to go in and pick one up (call first!) Also note that latest FCC regs require providers to all ow self-install of CableCards. TW techs are generally clueless about CC's in any case.

If you live in an area that will be covered by FiOS TV, you wont need a tuning adapter at all, just the m-card.
