How to record (and save space) on your DVR with the new Navigator
By: Melissa Sorola, www.twcableuntangled.com
Recently, we’ve posted a few updates about the Navigator on-screen program guide roll out that began in Austin and have given people an overview of features and tips on changing the aspect ratio on their HD TVs. Beginning this week, customers in San Antonio will switch over to the new on-screen guide. This transition will continue over the next few weeks.
As a reminder to our customers in San Antonio, with this new Navigator roll out- you should double check the settings for recorded programs to make sure it is set up for your viewing preferences. This checklist will be helpful in prepping for what you’ll begin to see.
Did you know you have options for how you record a show? Only want to watch new episodes of your favorite show? Or do you want to record them all? I’ve made the unfortunate mistake of not predetermining the recording settings of a program I wanted recorded only to have it record multiple episodes of one show and then learning ( the hard way) that my DVR was full.
Here’s a helpful video and you can check out written tips below.
To Record an Entire Series
I’ve seen some questions come up from our Texas customers asking “when am I getting this new guide?” After San Antonio, we’ll be launching this in El Paso beginning June 7 and then Corpus Christi beginning June 21. We’ll be sure to give everyone a heads up so they can make sure to double check their settings before the launch.
We continue to look forward to your feedback and will go through responses and get back to you as soon as we can.
Also – check out this brochure that gives an overview of Navigator, useful tips and a “My Settings Checklist.”

To Record an Entire Series
- First, find the title of an upcoming show in the Program Guide
- Press “select” on the remote control
- You’ll then see “Select An Option” – use the down arrow to select and option and then use the side arrow icons to make a choice within the option. For example, I only have Nurse Jackie set to “record new episodes” since it replays several times during the week. Trust me, this will save you some space on your DVR.
- You’ll then press the “A” button again to save the settings for your recording options.
- You’ll see the show you’ve selected highlighted in red in the status bar
