It looks like Verizon is winding down it's FiOS roll out. Apparently it cost a fair amount of change to add new subscribers. Wiring a neighborhood for FiOS works out to be about $750 per house. And if you actually sign up for FiOS, it costs Verizon another $600 to bring that household online. In this economy, that's a hard sell. Basically it looks like Verizon is not expanding into any markets. It will concentrate on the areas that it has entered. There are some details in this AP report, but that pretty much sums it up.

Ya this is old news, my understanding is it was between Albany and Buffalo/Rochester and they went Buffalo because their C.O. is out there--but that could be wrong.
If I were you and you were waiting for alternatives, D*'s deals right now are awesome... why wait.

It's not just FiOS TV that is on hold, they have stopped rolling out FiOS internet as well.
