Did channel 13 change their signal in some way? I'm seeing brown bars on the side of their local newscast while watching the HD feed on 1813 on TWC.
Are they perhaps testing for an upgrade?

My guess is they're simply using burn-in-friendly pillarboxing. Brown or grey is better than black.

I'm told WNYT's Engineering Department is not quite sure what's causing the Brown Pillars. Yes, you read that right.

If they were smart, they would do like I do when my wife thanks me for sending her flowers that I didn't order. "You're welcome, I hope you like them" ==== "You're welcome, viewer; we had your best interests in mind for preventing burn-in".
