Widespread outages at Time Warner Cable
Sunday, April 26, 2009From WNYTWidespread outages left many Time Warner Cable customers without phone and internet services. No phone service meant that people trying to call 911 for an emergency were out of luck. The Montgomery County Sheriff's Office issued a press release stating that all Montgomery County residents with Time Warner phone lines had to report in person to their local fire department, EMS, or police station in case of an emergency. According to the press release issued by the sheriff's office, a "fiber optic wire cut" was to blame for the disruption. However, Peter Taubkin, Vice President of Public Affairs at Time Warner Cable could not confirm that as the reason. Taubkin did say that the problem occurred some time Sunday morning and that the company's "focus is going to be to restore services as soon as possible." Taubkin did not say how many customers were affected by the disruption.

Here in Troy it was out until a little before 1 if I remember correctly. The times union site also mentioned that Buffalo, Syracuse, and Rochester were having issue, and since each of those systems are totally seperate, some type of major fiber line cut does make sense.
