Well I got home today with my family complaining that all they could do today was watch DVD's or recorded Tivo shows because all the channels are blank.
Well, low and behold I check it out and all the channel listings were ok but no video or sound. So I restart the Tivo using the settings menu...this did not bring the channels back...next thing was to unplug the power cord...nothing...so I left the unit off unplug while I call TW (just in case it was cable related) after waiting 7 minutes on hold I took the chance and plug the Tivo back and after about 5 minutes...all channels came back...
anyone experience something like this today?

I've had it happen before, but usually a reboot fixes it. Sometimes the stupid cable card gets "de-paired" and you get to play phone hell with TW explaining to them you need the card "hit".

Well now I'm getting something similar. Was watching Fox news on Friday when all of a sudden channel goes out (gray on the Tivo, but I did not get the "you're not authorized). 2 other channels also went out (CNBC and something else, but can't recall). I check the cable card and all of a sudden it thinks those channels (550, 540 and whatever else) are RF analog channels and not QAM-256 ALL other channels were fine. I call TW, they know nothing and so I have to schedule a service call. I finally just give up and reboot the Tivo (I had doing that because it takes forever to boot up). Boots up, and they're all back. 2 days later (Sunday) the same 3 channels go out again. Reboot and they're back. I'm *sure* the tech on Tuesday will have some idea as to what's going on (ha!) Get this: While I'm on the phone, the guy says that because I have no STB there's nothing they can do but schedule a service call. My retort: Well, every time you jack up the rates, I get rid of something. Next time, I get rid of TW all together and go to DISH.

They asked if you could elaborate on what your results were in solving this issue, if you have solved it. Thanks.

In my case, the channels that went out were the digital simulcast ones that were mapped to analog.
Rebooting the Tivo "fixed" the problem both times it happened.
The techs came and claimed it was due to my powered amplifier (funny, it's been working fine for 6+ years). They said, "oh you don't need that for only 6 TV's".
I said, okay, unplug the power and see what kind of signal strength you get. They unplug it and the signal goes to crap (gee, maybe I know what I'm talking about).
Then they say, "oh, it's dropping ONLY those 3 channels because the amplifier is putting out a strong reverse signal".
I said, 'you mean the signal it sends BACK to TW? Like for Video On Demand and PPV" They said "yeah".
I said, funny because i only have cable card and analog TV's. And the cable card can't send anything back.
So I said, since you guys keep saying it's that, you're gonna stay here and put in your own 6-way amplifier. So about 1.5 hours later they finished and left with their powered amp (that actually has the same signal strength going to the Tivo as before).
I doubt it'll fix it, only because the day AFTER I called, there's a TW truck up the road working on the lines outside the block.

Powering down and leaving it off for about 7 to 10 minutes solved my issue, knock on wood, it hasn't returned.

If you want to rule the possibility that the signal is too hot for the TiVo, Smarthome.com sells signal attenuators that filter dpwn thje signal. FiOs TV users end up getting them becuase the signal coming out the ONT can be too hot for the TiVo HD/Series 3. You can get a mixed bag of attenuators and mix them up to get the the level of filtering. If you do a search on dslreports.com for "tivo fios attenuator", you'll find plenty of links that describe what to do.

Yeah, I'm still not sure they're just making stuff up.
I've had like 6 visits. Each time it changes.
First it's, the signal is too strong, then it's too weak, then it's too strong, then it's because they didn't remove the HBO tap like 7 years ago.
I honestly don't think they know what they're doing to be honest.
but this way it's all their equipment now so if they complain again (and the attenuators are really nothing more than a splitter with a terminator on one end). They had one in before, because they claimed the signal was too strong. Then a few weeks later they took it out because they said it was too weak.
I think they just flip a coin.
My favorite though is that they sit outside afterward for about 45 minutes doing who knows what and then finally go.
