I’ve been reading this forum ever since I purchased my HDTV about a year ago. I know that this is my first post, but I was wondering if I could get your help. I’ve been looking for an inexpensive and easy way to add more space to my SA8300 HD DVR (Time Warner Cable - Glens Falls). I came across the Western Digital - My DVR Expander 500GB External Hard Drive. www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=8477105&st=esata&lp=2&type=product&cp=1&id=1185271084416Do any of you have this? Ever heard anything about it? Comments good/bad? Thanks for any help you can give me. CrashRooks

Just read an article in either e-week or infoworld on this. It supposedly did work but required a little finessing. May want to check the avsforums.

I've had bad experiences with external WD drives. Three failed on me in the last two years. However, I have never had an issue with an internal WD drive, so my setup of choice is a 500 or 750 GB WD internal drive paired with an Antec MX-1 enclosure. The enclosure was $35 when I got it on Amazon (great deal), but is now up to $50. Still, I would recommend this combo over a WD enclosure, but YMMV. (WD5000AAKS + Antec enclosure = $107 + tax.) I've had no issues in 1 1/2 years using this combo with a SA8300HD. Also avsforum has a long thread dedicated to hooking up an eSATA drive to the 8300HD (we have the SARA version) that also links to a page listing tons of different drive / enclosure combos that people have successfully used.
