Well, I just couldn't pass up a good deal from ebay. I found a TiVo TCD648250B Series3 HD Digital Media Recorder for $250 and I took the plunge. Now comes the real money...paying Tivo $399 + NY State Tax = $430.92 for lifetime service or paying one of the Tivo sellers on ebay just $349 for lifetime service.
One thing is for sure...these Tivo's with lifetime service sell well on ebay...which means...after this experiment...if I move to Satellite, I have a market for my Tivo.

Have you contacted TWC yet to have them come install the cable cards?

I think for the extra $50 you would've been better off with the TivoHD instead of the Series3.
But that's just me. I seem to remember that in addition to having to pay for TWO S-cards, there was something else that the S3 wouldn't do that the HD would (or maybe handled more elegantly)?

I think the Tivo HD XL will be my next purchase. The reason I took the plunge on the discontinued series 3 was because of the larger hard drive 250 vs 160, the OLED screen, the glow remote and the ability to add unsupported esata storage without hacks.

Ok. TWC tech installed two CableCards (multi-stream) on my Tivo. Everything went ok (better than I expected). I get all the HD channels and digitals except for channel 210 Military channel. Did that one go over to the dark side (SDV)?

Did that one go over to the dark side (SDV)? You don't need the multi-stream cards, the single-stream will work. But, as long as they have them working, you are good. TWC doesn't charge extra for the M-cards. The Military Channel on 210 is NOT using SDV. I just checked in the diagnostic menu. Also, a complete list of SDV channels is available here.
