I'd like to hear from those of you who use Netflix and/or Blockbuster to rent DVD's via US Mail.
I signed up for Netflix a few months ago (after I got my HD DVD player) and have been very pleased with the service.
A few times, I dropped off my returned videos at the Karner Road post office to see if it would get turned around faster, but it seemed to take the same time as if I left the envelope in my mailbox. Typically, it takes one day to process and one to send my next video. So, for example, I leave the envelope in my mailbox on Monday, Netflix receives it on Tuesday, ships the next video in my queue on Tuesday, and I receive the new DVD on Wednesday.
The return address is usually a Albany zip code, but when I did a search on that zip code, it stated that the zip code was for PO Boxes only. Thinking it must be for the main Post Office on Karner Road, I tried dropping the envelope at the PO early in the morning, hoping Netflix would turn it around and send a new one out the same day. Not so. Still took the 2 days.
Anyone know where the Albany Netflix processing office is?

I've used Netflix for 8 years now, love the service. Honestly, I think 2 days is the absolute minimum you'll be able to get turnaround on a movie ... that's what I normally get down in Columbia County as well, and I'm not complaining. I have the 4-at-a-time plan and I'm very rarely completely out of stuff to watch.

4-at-a-time with a 2-day turnaround? That works out to about 12 movies a week. When do you find the time to watch them?
I don't have NetFlix or BlockBuster. Just the local library (pretty good selection of regular DVDs) plus broadcasts for my HD fix, and even with the writers' strike I haven't gone through my backlog of OTA recordings.

Must be the Albany Postal service for me then. Technically I'm in Loudonville, but the zipcode and post man are in Albany.
It takes 1-2 days for NetFlix to receive my DVD and another 2 days for me to receive it. 3 days at the minimum, usually 4 days total turn around.
I had Blockbuster and they were definitely faster (for some reason), but they were always out of the movies I wanted to rent and I got tired of having to wait 3-4 weeks for it to show up.
(Anime movies).
so I'm at the 2/time plan on Netflix now.

Hurnik: Anime movies? Have you checked out the Guilderland Library? Last time I was in they had a sizeable section devoted to them. I just checked online (keywords: anime dvd) and found 71. Might be some duplicates or false hits, but worth a look. Not HD, though.

I forgot about the library. I'll have to check the Loudonville one.
Thanks!

Have had Netflix for nearly two years now and am quite happy with the service. We have the 1 at a time plan and, if I happen to have time for two movies in a week I can usually get it (ship on Monday, next movie on Weds, ship that on Thurs, next movie on Sat). The streaming service is handy for when I'm on the road, too.
oh, and unrelated, but hurnik, would you happen to be a former manager at a store called Computers Etc. about 152 years ago?

OMG, someone remembers that "place we never worked" at (as Ben would call it).
LOL!
Yeah, that was me a long time ago.
I feel old now.

This thread at AVS has a list of all the HD DVD titles available at Netflix. Also, if you are logged into Netflix at the same time you visit the thread, you can click on the titles and it will add them to your Netflix queue. The thread also lists the titles soon to be released on HD DVD. I find it very handy.
