NetFlix May Use HDTV DVDs For Net Video
The company could use Web-enabled high-def players.

NetFlix yesterday said it may deliver movies directly to the home by using Internet-connected HDTV DVD players.
The company now uses postal mail service to distribute DVDs to more than five million subscribers.
But in a Monday conference call with financial analysts, NetFlix CEO Reed Hastings said the company will enter the online distribution business next year.
Hastings said NetFlix is exploring using Internet-connected high-def DVD players and and video game consoles. The company could send the videos to owners of those devices over their high-speed Internet services.
Some Blu-ray and HD DVD players have Internet connections as does the XBox 360 and Play Station 3 game consoles.
"We are exploring a variety of options, including Internet-connected High-Definition DVD players, Internet-connected game consoles and dedicated Internet set tops with a variety of partners," Hastings said during the conference call.
