Sling Media to Unveil Slingbox For HD
The announcement follows its sale to EchoStar.
September 27, 2007
By Phillip Swann, tvpredictions.com Sling Media, which was purchased this week by satcaster EchoStar, is expected today to release a HD-supported Slingbox.
That's according to an article by News.com.
The Slingbox allows viewers to send their home TV signals over a Broadband connection to remote locations such as mobile phones and notebook PCs.
Until now, the set-top was not compatible with high-def signals. But News.com reports that the new model, called Slingbox Solo, will have component video connections so HD channels can be transmitted as well.
The HD picture quality will diminish when seen on either a small-screen mobile phone or notebook screen. But high-def viewers could at least see their favorite HD channels when away from home.
EchoStar, the nation's second largest satellite TV service, announced Monday that it's buying Sling Media for $380.
With EchoStar aggressively promoting its high-def lineup, it's likely the satcaster will make the new Slingbox Solo an integral part of its marketing effort.
News.com reports that the new Slingbox Solo is expected to be priced at $179.99.
