JVC Introduces 'Fast-Motion' LCD HDTV
May 21, 2007
The company says it will improve displays of fast moving action in high-def broadcasts.
By Phillip Swann, tvpredictions.com LCD High-Definition TVs are selling at a rapid clip, but some owners are a bit miffed at the way they display rapid movements, particularly during sports.
Acknowledging LCD's one weakness, albeit a slight one, JVC this fall will introduce three new high-def LCDs that promise to eliminate the problem.
The 'Clear Motion Drive' set features a refresh rate of 120 frames per second, double the typical rate for a LCD. But unlike JVC's previous CMD LCD, this new one has been designed for 'Full HD' 1080p displays.
JVC says it will improve motion detection by five times over the previous set.
For those not familiar with LCD sets, fast motion blur is an occasional occurrence, annoying high-def owners used to picture perfection. Although the glitch is not even detectible by many viewers, LCD makers are aware that it causes negative word-of-mouth among HD enthusiasts.
JVC says the new CMD set uses a frame doubling driver and motion interpolation to increase the frame rate in the display. This eliminates the blurring or flickering that occurs during sports broadcasts.
The three CMD sets that will be introduced this fall will be 47-inch, 42-inch and 37-inch. JVC did not reveal pricing or exact launch date details.
