October 17, 2006
By Phillip Swann, tvpredictions.com While many TV makers are going big, Sanyo has decided to go small.
Real small.
The electronics company today announced that it has developed a 7.1-inch Liquid-Crystal Display (LCD) TV that will display 1080p HDTV.
Sanyo's new 7.1-inch LCD HDTV.
No word on when the mini LCD will be available for sale or for how much.
Sanyo says consumers are increasingly demanding smaller and medium-sized LCDs so they can watch TV on the go. The new 7.1-inch set can display both high-def video and still images.
The company says it's the world's smallest screen size for a "full HD" LCD; "full HD" is the industry term for the new 1080p programming format.
The TV offers a resolution of 310 pixels per inch, the highest level for a panel of this size, says Sanyo.
Sanyo will display the new LCD at the FPD International 2006 conference which is being held later this week at Pacifico Yokohama.
