I'm getting ready to upgrade my home theater system with a Panasonic AV Receiver(SA-XR70) and was wondering where to buy HDMI and HDMI-to-DVI cables. Radio Shack wants over $100 for these and I don't think TWC provides them. Also...at the end of the day...is it worth the upgrade from component video cables?

I tried to get the HDMI output from the 8300HD DVR working with my DVI input on my Toshiba 57H83 RPTV. Couldn't get it to work. I bought the cable from Pacific Cables for $41.36. I'll sell it to you for $30. Here's a link to the cable I bouught: www.pacificcable.com/Picture_Page.asp?DataName=HDMIDVI%2D2

I tried (one last time) to get my 8300HD DVR to connect to my Toshiba 57H83 RPTV via a HDMI to DVI cable.
It worked this time! So, I think I'll keep my cable for now.

Well....I decided to patronize one of this board's sponsors and purchased cables from eForcity which were very reasonable. About about 8 hours of wiring and re-wiring...failure! I could NOT get an HD signal either direct from the 8300 to my SONY Wega(with DVI) or through my Panasonic HDMI receiver(SA-XR70). The connection worked, but I would get an error message - "DVI Alert - Your HDTV does not support HDCP. Use component connections". TWC Albany wasn't any help and I'm awaiting a call from the famous "Mike". Any suggestions? KC

Don't assume it just because it's a Sony. Also, you have lots of company. I Googled sony wega dvi "does not support hdcp" and got lots of hits. In particular, look at this one for a possible solution: www.digitalhomecanada.com/forum/showthread.php?t=20076&highlight=HDMI+DVI+adapter+SonyPreview of this msg shows the link above stopping before the "+DVI" and I don't know how to fix that, so you'll have to block and copy. Of course one answer could be a firmware update from TW, but I wouldn't hold my breath.
