Oh I have issues with TW's implementation of the cablecard...sure the PQ with cablecard is much better than with the 8300HD but it seems that every day I lose some digital channels until I reset the cablecard (remove & re-insert).
The answer I get from tech support is that it's a new technology and that they are still tweaking their computer software to accomodate the changes needed for the cablecard...I would believe this but it's the same answer I got when I inquired about the HDMI output on the SA 8300HD, of which, they have been tweeking for a lifetime. I've lost patience with TW...Dish looks better everyday...once Dish releases the Dish 962 MPEG 4 HD DVR it will be adios TW...

Thank you hurnik. I was already aware of TW manipulating the cablecard software to force customers back to STB and blame the problem on the technology. It seems that "revenue from PPV" is more important than solving cc issues.

Any chance this is some sort of violation of the FCC rules for cable card? (I don't know, just asking). Seems to me that TW is deliberately crippling the cable card's feature so that people will be forced to rent the digital converter box.

I don't think it's deliberate. I spoke to several TW techs and the STB software bugs has most of their attention. They are manipulating the cc software but it's more software tweaking than anything else.

**** UPDATE **** All my cablecard issues are solved! Here's what I did based on recommendations from avsforum members, TWC and JVC techs: I ordered a 8 output drop amplifier model EDA-FT08130 www.tvcinc.com/Product%20PDFs/Drop/Amplifiers.pdf from TVC Communications www.tvcinc.com/Default.htm phone number 1-888-644-6075. The cost was $60 plus $5 for shipping. The EDA gives you a 3db gain per output plus 0 db return loss on the signal. Essentially boosting each incoming signal by 3db. I requested a service call to TW for a TW drop amp installation. TW Tech removed all TW amp/taps/splitters in house end and installed my EDA-FT08130 (no charge). Installer boost the incoming signal from the outside post to the house by adding a TW 15db gain drop amplifier to feed the EDA-FT08130. Installer installed a TAP for my Road Runner so it doesn't go thru the TW 15db gain drop amp and the EDA-FT08130. He also installed new Scientific Atlanta cablecard with OS Build 2.3.149.s2 THE RESULTS: I receive all my cable channels plus premiums and DOLBY DIGITAL sound with my HD JVC (required a firmware upgrade to the tv from f155 to f163) and I improved the PQ on all tv's in the house. Checking antenna levels: 89% for HD, 83% for SD and 77% for analog. Although this solved my situation, I had to do the research, find that the issue was that TW wasn't feeding the proper levels for cablecard, my tv needed a firmware update for DD5.1 sound and I had to purchase equipment to get the best PQ possible with cablecard. However, my hat goes off to the many hours, nights and days spent on the phone with JVC & TWC techs. Now, if they only add more HD channels...
