CeBIT: TV tuner in a USB stick from Compro Vyacheslav Sobolev, DigiTimes.com. [Wednesday 16 March 2005]
Headquartered in Taiwan, TV tuner vendor Compro Technology is getting ready to market a new concept based on the well-known USB stick. Three new TV tuners using the concept are being shown at CeBIT. The company is hoping to launch all three in June and to begin shipments in July.
All the products are USB powered and support USB 2.0. The first one, currently named VideoMate DVB-T Stick, is a digital TV (DVB-T) receiver. The other two, the analog VideoMate TV Stick and VideoMate TV Tiny, support the NTSC and PAL/SECAM television standards, respectively. The three products require a CPU with a minimum frequency of 600MHz for regular TV viewing, 866MHz for MPEG-2 recording and 2.4GHz for HDTV. All of the new TV tuners also need at least 128MB of RAM and currently run on the Windows XP operating system, the company said.
Pricing information for the new products is not yet available.
VideoMate TV Tiny devices are bigger than USB sticks, but still USB powered and utilize a similar concept.
