All of the 2007 Yankee games shown on YES Network will be in HD. See this post for more info. However, the Yankees sell a 21 game package to a "local" TV outlet so even those without cable or satellite can still catch a few Yankee games. This 21 game package is not shown on YES and typically consists of Tuesday and Friday games shown locally on WXXA, channel 23. I'm disappointed when I go to watch the Yankees on Tuesday or Friday and have to watch the game in SD. So, I asked WXXA Chief Engineer Sarge Cathrall if they have explored the possibility of showing the 21 games in HD, since YES is producing the games in HD. Sarge replied, "We are looking into it." You can view the entire Yankees and Mets TV schedule at the Albany TWC website. They have posted PDF files with the schedules.

WXXA will use digital channel to broadcast some Yankee games The Business Review (Albany) - 3:17 PM EDT Friday, April 13, 2007
WXXA/Channel 23 is using its new digital channel to fill in its schedule of Yankees games.
The Albany, N.Y. Fox Broadcasting station has, in the past, been prevented from showing some games in its 21-game Yankees broadcast package because it was limited in how much Fox programming it could preempt.
Now if there is a conflict, the baseball game will air on VTV, the digital channel WXXA put on the air March 1. VTV is on Channel 23.2 on digital sets, and on digital cable channel 423. The first game to air on VTV will be April 17th, when the Yankees play the Cleveland Indians starting at 7:00pm.

Maybe I'm just in a bad mood because the Yankees have lost 5 in a row and are losing tonight's game 3-0, but the audio dropouts on TWC channel 423 for the Blue Jays game are ticking me off. Plus, the crappy 4:3 SD picture quality sucks.
About every 30 seconds, the audio goes out for 4 seconds or so.

I am so disappointed (again) that tonight's Yankees-Red Sox game is only available in SD on WXXA. It is such a letdown to watch the game with such poor picture quality and non-DD 5.1 sound. I'd almost rather watch the Mr. & Mrs. Smith re-run on HBO in HD.
Please WXXA, get the proper equipment so you can pass the HD picture on to us for the 2008 season.

What extra equipment should they need.
They already show the Saturday afternoon FOX baseball broadcasts in HD and YES certainly was producing it in HD.
It just appears that WXXA doesn't want to pay for both the SD and HD feeds. The idiotic MLB blackout rules need to change. If a local station only is showing the SD feed, it should not prevent you from watching the HD feed from another provider.

I'm not a broadcast engineer, but I'll take a guess that WXXA only has the equipment to pass the HD signal from FOX. WXXA would have to be able to receive the HD signal from YES via satellite and retransmit it to TWC and OTA. See WXXA Chief Engineer Sarge Cathrall's resonse a few posts above this one.

Sarge:
Have you made any progress in obtaining the equipment necessary to show the Yankees games in HD in 2008?
If not, do you plan on working on this?

What extra equipment should they need? While discussing how WTEN intends to broadcast the HD versions of Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy, WTEN Chief Engineer Skeeter Lansing explained the difference between locally broadcasting a live HD program like a Yankee game and a recorded (syndicated) HD program like Wheel or Jeopardy.
