Next week WEWB-DT will have "The Lord of the Rings: Fellowship of the Ring" in 1080i. It will be shown over two nights, uncut, Sunday 11/7 & Monday 11/8. It is unknown wether it's the Theatrical or Extended version. The WB network will also begin DD5.1 with that showing, I've asked our local WB Chief Engineer if WEWB-DT is/will be ready for DD5.1 in the Chief Engineer Q&A board. WEWB-DT is OTA only.

It's too bad this wasn't available via Albany TWC so I could record it in HD and watch it when I wanted.
I heard a local radio advertisement this morning touting this program and the fact it will be in HD.

Well TWC subs didn't miss that much. Unfortunately there were many problems with the broadcast.
Number one, was that the overall PQ was not very good. Posters in other message boards swear it was a widescreen upconvert. I watched the image fall apart during high motion scenes quite a few times.
It was the the theatrical release, zoomed to fill a 16x9 screen. (as opposed to the Extended release in OAR.
The audio was constantly popping or breaking up, at one point towards the end of the night, it was more than a second out of sync with the video.
When it started and the first few times they came back from local break, it was left in SD upconvert mode for a few minutes.
There was also a huge WB logo on the screen during the entire broadcast, it was framed for the corner of 4x3 screen, not a 16x9, and thus looked to close to the center of the screen.
All and all, I'm glad to see both WB and WEWB efforting better HD, but I really hope they use this as a learning opportunity.

Well part 2's broadcast tonight was a little better. There was no upconvert/hd feed mix-ups and audio problems where minimal. The bug, the aspect, the version were all the same as expected, but it looks like atleast some improvements were made for part 2.
