I was just replaying NYPD Blue from Tuesday, August 28th on my 8300HD DVR. About 10 minutes into the show, the audio dropped out, but not all of it. I could hear the background sounds...phone ringing, horns beeping, paper shuffling, etc. There was no speech from any of the actors. It was like the actors had been muted, but you could hear all the background sounds. When the show went to commercial, all the sound could be heard, like normal. However, when the show came back on...still no speech from the actors....very frustrating. I don't know if this was an ABC issue, WTEN issue, or a problem with my 8300HD DVR? EDIT: I fast forwarded a while and about half way through the episode, the audio came back.

Had the same problem with my 8000hd dvr. Picture switched from hd to sd and back, then lost speech for about 20 minutes. Has to be an ABC or WTEN issue. My guess is ABC. BTW,did anyone else notice that at the end of the Monday night Football game you could hear the fans and refs, but not Madden and Michaels. Wonder if the audio problems are related?

I recorded Lost last night on ABC on my 8300HD. The first 15min had audio problems, when the station ID came up and the picture switched to SD the audio was fine. It was fixed after that.

Same thing happened while I was watching NYPD Blue on HDTV (8000DVR). I turned it to the "other" channel to finish watching. Who wants to record their favorite programs then find out there was no audio 2 days later! Not ME! I guess I'll be taping in SD until this get worked out.
LOST will be re-broadcast on Saturday night...from 8pm until 10pm. Both the first and second episodes will be aired for those who missed it.

Same thing happened while I was watching NYPD Blue on HDTV (8000DVR). So, I gather from your post that the audio problem was on ABC's HD channel 1810 but not on channel 0010 and you saw this live, not recorded? At least that tells me that it is not the DVR with the problem.

I sent an e-mail to Skeeter Lansing at WTEN.... Skeeter, Are you aware that the last 3 nights there have been audio problems (no audio on MNF,NYPD Blue and Lost ) on the HD feed for various lenghts of time. This has been OTA and on TWC. IS this problem being resolved or should I tape the SD channel should I decide to use my DVR? I shall let everyone know what he says if he relies back...

Reply from Skeeter Lansing.... I have been working to improve the in house monitoring for HDTV, now we are both on the air and TWC. I will have the operator pay more attention to the HDTV audio along with video. We are not able to listen to analog and DTV audio simultaneously as the time difference between analog audio and DTV audio is up to 6 secs, with audio from WCDC-DT delayed the greatest amount. WTEN-DT is about 4 secs delayed and TWC 3 secs delayed.
It has presented us with unique problem of how to constantly monitor 10 streams of the same audio program but at different times, without driving the operator crazy. We only found this out after we came on air with our signals earlier this month.
I appreciate you taking the time to advise us of the problem, and apologize for not delivering a better product to your home.
Thank You Skeeter Lansing

Skaggs,
You are correct. I was watching NYPD live and the audio problem was only on the HD channel. When I switched to the analog channel the audio was fine.
After reading ABC's response, however, I think if I REALLY want to see a program and need to record it, I will be doing so in SD. SUCH a shame!
