Did anyone else notice that the HD broadcast of the Packers/Panthers game was not in HD all night? I only watched until halftime but I noticed the black bars up until about 4 minutes to go in the first half.

The problem is that every time they insert the local Station ID, it automatically switches to upconvert from analog. They then have to remember to manually switch it back to the 720p feed. They legally have to insert the Station ID, and sitching to upconvert is a less expensive means to achieve this legal requirement. Basically, the guy has to remember to flip the switch.
The other networks have come up with better ways to deal with this, like FOX's splicer system. I am not sure if ABC offers its affiliates a better way or what they would need to get on board with it.
Ultimately it sucks, and they need to pay closer attention, especially on Monday nights.
