ESPN, ESPN2 HD to Give Away 100 HDTVs
September 01, 2005
By John Consoli, MediaWeek
ESPN HD and ESPN2 HD, which telecast 61 live sporting events in high definition in August, announced a contest in which they will give away 100 Philips HDTVs and free DirecTv service for one year.
Viewers can win by watching for a codeword that will appear within a 10-second video promo during every game or pre-game telecast that airs on the two HD channels. The viewer can then log on to a special Web site to register under that codeword. The winners will be announced on ESPN radio show Mike and Mike in the Morning.
"We wanted to create a promotion across the various ESPN medias that is geared to driving viewership of our telecasts, as well as that increases awareness of ESPN's high definition services," said Bryan Burns, vp, strategic business planning and development for ESPN. "We are pleased to be able to work with Philips and DirecTV to combine our assets to support the holiday selling season for high definition television."
ESPN2 will launch on DirecTV Sept. 8.
