Thanks to Skaggs for updating this forum so those of us that subscribe to satellite have the ability to discuss just as TWC customers. So, I figured why not start a directv thread as a start as I am curious to know how people feel about their service and what epuipment they use in the Capital Region... As for me, I have the Samsung SIR360 STB and Samsung HLP4663 TV which I purchased three months ago as well as a very 'descent' Toshiba HTS. As far as service, I have had both Dish (first) and D* but only HD on D*. The one and only reason I had to switch was due to MLB Ticket unavailability at the time. Hope to hear your comments..

When I first got my HDTV, I lived out in the hills where cable is not available and I had DISH. At the time, they only had 2 HD channels so I left for DirecTV which had 4 HD channels.
I first had a Panasonic TU-HDS20 which I absolutley hated. It was horrible, took up to 4 seconds to change a channel sometimes. Locked up all the time and had a crappy interface.
Then I bought and sold on eBay to get myself a Zenith Sat520. That box is awesome. I still use it as an OTA receiver because it's very good.
This year, though, I moved into an apartment for 5 months and then got a house again. When the dust finally settled, VOOM was offering the $0 Hardware/Install and No contracts, so I gave it a whirl. What can I say... I'm hooked on all the HD channels, I just can't see going back to anyone else's comparitevely void of HD offerings.
The VOOM STB is junk, so as far as the best Sat/OTA box I ever used... it was the D* Zenith Sat520. Incidently, it was actually made by LG. The SONY STB's are also made by LG. All 3 (LG, SONY and ZENITH) are actually the same boxes on the inside.
