-----Original Message----- From: help@nycap.rr.com [mailto:help@nycap.rr.com] Sent: Sunday, November 07, 2004 9:44 PM To: mark@albanyhdtv.com Subject: SA8300 HDMI port
I received back confirmation that the HDMI port is active on the current software version SA8300 you have received. I wanted to be sure that the version I tested wasn't setup special for employee testing. We have had some other reports of compatibility issues using HDMI, similiar to the DVI related issues we discussed.
The SA8000 we have here for testing continues to work normal most of the time while connected to a Panasonic PT-47wx via HDMI/DVI crossover cable. There is a intermittent issue while tuning between hd/sd channels where the DVI alert message appears (page#2 in the SA3250 setup wizard). I find switching back to a SD feed will force the resolution back to 480i (if set to pass thru) and will restore the picture when tuning back to other channels.
Please let me know if you continue to have trouble using the HDMI and want to try a different converter. I will have a 8300 set aside if you want to pick it up @ our Highbridge Rd office.
Sorry for the delay in responding!

I have given up trying. I've posted similar info on two AVS forums...the 8300HD DVR forum and the Toshiba HDTV forum. I got a few responses at the Toshiba forum...they all said they were having difficulty with HDMI connections.
When I find some time and feel like trying again, I'll probably attempt to find a resolution through Toshiba Techniacl Support.

Just a note that I got my HDMI-DVI cable yesterday (they are about $25 on ebay). Hooked the 8300 up to my Toshiba - works just fine! Skaggs -- Get the 8300 if you haven't so far -- really much better! Craig

Skaggs -- Get the 8300 if you haven't so far -- really much better! Craig I've got the 8300HD DVR and a 57H83 Toshiba. What model Toshiba do you have? Were there any issues when using it the 1st time?

I've got the 30HF83 - a CRT based widescreen.
Absolutely NO PROBLEMS at all. I am using a HDMI to DVI conversion cable. HDMI picture is darker than component video, but I have to set up the DVI input. Obviously, separate cables need to be run for the audio.
Frankly, I don't see any difference in quality between HDMI and Component, but YMMV.

OK -- I was wrong. When Iturned it on today (Sun) I got the "Your set is not...." message I turned off both the box and the TV, and then made sure the box was on first -- then I turned on the TV --now works.
Note -- I got this message over both HDMI and component inputs!

I gave up on trying to find an 8300HD with the HDMI port working correctly. I have the Toshiba 57H93 with DVI-D input and I have it connected to panasonic dvd player (s97s) with HDMI output. I have the HDMI - DVI monster cable. I used that same cable to hookup to the 8300HD (4 different 8300's) and it was a NO go. No HDMI signal (black screen).
