I just purchased a Zenith HDV420 at Circuit City. It was an "open box" purchase which I got at a great price. With it I purchased a Terk HD indoor antenna. I've gotten it set up, but all I get when I attempt to change stations are 13-1 and 13-2. I live in Niskayuna off of rt 7. Have I got the receiver set up wrong or do I need a stronger new outdoor antenna? Any suggestions on what to get? Thanks.

Go to www.antennaweb.org and click "CHOOSE AN ANTENNA" Enter your house's address and press SUBMIT. A list of all the stations available in the Albany area will appear. You should note the COMPASS ORIENTATION column. This will list the degree of orientation to the digital tower. Click STREET LEVEL MAP and a map will display of your street and a line will be drawn towards the tower. Orient your attenna according to the manufacturer's directions towards the tower. A photo of the tower is available here. If you can get 13-1, you should be able to get 6-1 and 17-1, too. The transmitters are all located on this same tower. The Antennaweb site will also list the best type of antenna for your location.

I would like to relate my experience here just in case someone else someone else has the same situation as I did. I live in eastern Rensselaer county near the Vermont border. I had an antenna installed in the hopes of getting HD from the Albany channels. Note that I live in a valley, while someone else a half mile away on a hilltop would almost certainly have totally different results. This is just to show that what should happen doesn't always work out that way. --------------------------------- --A list of all the stations available in the Albany area will appear. --------------------------------- In my case, 'antennaweb.org' showed I would not be able to receive any digital channels from Albany. It did show I would be able to receive Channel 19 (Channel 10 out of Adams, Mass). In the end, I receive WNYT HD perfectly. I can't touch any other Albany HD transmission. I do not receive 19 digitally but it does come in great in analog. However, I do believe I will be able to get 19 in HD when the leaves are off the trees (and the moon is lined with Venus).
--------------------------------- If you can get 13-1, you should be able to get 6-1 and 17-1, too. The transmitters are all located on this same tower. --------------------------------- You would think so. I did, too. However, I get WNYT in HD and can't touch any other station digitally. I had Lake Electronics come to test the (built-in) tuner and they came up with the same results. I had a rotor added and it really did not make a difference.
As a side note, it was a little humorous in discussing this with the people at Tweeters (purchased 48" Mit there) who told me I couldn't get anything because 'antennaweb.org' said so. It really took a while to convince them I was watching WNYT HD while I was speaking with them.
