Ugh! Nothing to me is a greater waste of TV time than ESPN 2. Womens Basketball? 6 hours of World Series of Poker? Table Tennis? Truly a waste of HD bandwith. And they could have had Cinemax or StarzHD. Oh well, maybe next year.

Mr. Taubkin:
Thank you for providing us with ESPN2 HD.
I contacted your customer care representative with the questions, “Why is it that Albany Time Warner Cable is the only TWC franchise in the United States that has ESPN2 HD? Is it because you acquired Adelphia and Adelphia had an agreement to carry ESPN2 HD?”
As you can see from the response I received from “Matt”, he states that the Adelphia merger was merely a coincidence. However I noticed he spelled “negotiations” and “acquiring” incorrectly, which leads me to question the accuracy of the answer he provided. Here is his response below:

Mark, We are constantly in negotiaions with other networks to provide new service to our customers. Our merger with Adelphia and aquiring the station was just coincidence.
Please let us know if we can be of any additional assistance. Thank you for being a Time Warner Cable customer. ------ Matt Customer Care Team Time Warner Cable Albany Division 1021 Highbridge Rd Schenectady, NY 12303 1-866-321-2225
Could you provide any insight as to why Albany TWC is the only TWC franchise in the country to provide ESPN2 HD to their subscribers?
Thank you for your attention to this matter.
Sincerely,
Mark Pyskadlo

First, you’re welcome. Enjoy. Second, our customer service representative is correct. TWC’s programming agreement with ESPN had/has nothing to do with our acquisition of Adelphia systems. Third, I do not believe your statement about Albany being the only system without ESPN2 HD is correct. In fact, to the best of my knowledge, TWC’s Albany and Syracuse divisions are among the first. Thanks. Take care. Peter M. Mr. Taubkin:
My question was, “Why is it that Albany Time Warner Cable is the only TWC franchise in the United States that has ESPN2 HD?”
I know Albany and Syracuse were the 1st TWC franchises in the country to offer ESPN2 HD. I was inquiring as to why this is the case. There are no other TWC franchises with ESPN2 HD…why? What made Albany TWC unique?
Thanks again.

From: Taubkin, Pete Sent: Tuesday, January 02, 2007 11:34 AM To: mark Subject: RE: Thank you for ESPN2 HD I can’t speak for other systems. Each system has different considerations and timing of launches could certainly vary. When channels are launched, the launch entails efforts involving multiple departments including engineering, billing, marketing, etc. Ultimately, though, programming agreements are generally negotiated at the corporate level for the right to carry the programming.
