Skaggs, thanks for the email otherwise I wouldn't have noticed right away. Good that they added it. Bad that it's on the HD Tier. although in that case I'll bite the bullet and fork out the $3.95 --I really don't care for sports (sorry folks) so the rest of the HD Tier is kinda poop for me. Although I suppose I can drop SHO and HBO now that none of my shows are on anymore.

Is it part of the HD Tier or is it Free to all Digital Subs with a HD-STB? I called TWC and spoke to Danielle. She said, "That's a very good question. I don't know off the top of my head, but if you don't mind holding, I'll find out for you." After about 30 seconds, she came back on the line and told me that it will be included in the HD Tier. I said, "So, if I just have digital cable without the HD tier, I won't get Universal HD?" Danielle said, "That's what my supervisor just told me."

Also....I'm not picking up UHD with cablecard...must be an authorization problem again... It's working on my CableCARD just fine so it doesnt seem to be a "global" issue.

The channel is part of the HD Tier. It has not been officially launched as of yet.

Well I've be leaving next week for our annual traditional Christmas & New Year's family party/reunion at my sister's in Long Island. The great thing is that she turns on all the sports , movies and HD tiers for that one week of Christmas to New Year. She get's the following over OTA in HD (each channel has several sub-digital channels):
PBS HD CBS HD NBC HD ABC HD FOX HD UPN HD WB HD i HD (PAX HD) UNIVISION HD (SPANISH) TELEMUNDO HD (SPANISH) TELEFUTURA HD (SPANISH)
And besides the TW HD channels we have up here (including HD Tier) she gets on cable:
STARZ HD CINEMAX HD TMC HD ESPN2 HD FOX SPORTS NY HD NBATV HD (majority of programming is still 480i) NFLTV HD (majority of programming is still 480i) OLN HD (majority of programming is still 480i except for hockey and I believe we get some of the OLN HD programming on INHD2) Plus a ton of Cablevision HD extra channels (formerly voom)...
Anyways, if you remove the Voom channels...we're getting closer to having what they have down there in terms of HD channels...there is no excuse for TW not to carry the HD versions of Starz, TMC & Cinemax...but we're inching slowly but surely forward on the other channels...I do want to see Univision HD here before the Soccer World Cup in June '06 but I don't think that will happen...UPN HD & WB HD should be a no brainer...I really don't know what is happening there because these are re-transmits from NYC...also...standard tier is non-analog it is simulcast in digital...nice feature..
Anyways, just in case I don't get the chance...I wish everyone a Merry Christmas, a Happy Hanukkah and one heck of a Happy New Year!!!
Be good and be safe and may Santa bring us more HD Channels in the New Year!

UPN HD & WB HD should be a no brainer...I really don't know what is happening there because these are re-transmits from NYC. WB: TWC and WEWB have not been able to reach an agreement (Similar issues as WRGB/WNYT had in the past) UPN: Our local UPN affiliate is not currently offering HD, there is nothing TWC can do.

Or wait for Verizon FIOS.
I believe their HD Tier pricing is cheaper and offers more channels.
Right now, in order to receive "the max" HD Channels I can on TW, I have to fork out $45 for digital cable, plus $3.95 for HD Tier, plus $14 for HBO and $10 for SHO
Although someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm 99% sure in order to get the "regular" HD channels, you can't just subscribe to basic cable for $9.95/month

The basic cable includes the HD locals however a cablecard or hd stb is needed to receive. Thats 5 major affliates for mthly rate $13 + $2 for the cablecard

I thought that the CableCard has issues with DD5.1 and often needs a reboot to get certain "in the clear" HD channels. TWC does currently allow Discovery HD Theater and TNT-HD to be received by non-HD Tier Subscribers.
If you are only interested in getting the Broadcast Networks in HD cheaply, consider OTA. You lose DiscoveryHD & TNT-HD, but gain WB-HD. At $15/Mo it would take less than a year to pay off the cost of an HD-OTA tuner and rooftop antenna. With NO FURTHER COSTS. Many newer HD sets have the tuner built-in already. Plus, I would think that most HDTV's with a CableCard slot would also include an HD-OTA (ATSC) receiver.

I thought that the CableCard has issues with DD5.1 and often needs a reboot to get certain "in the clear" HD channels. As a user of the cablecard now for several months I can atttest that I never had issues with DD5.1 or with in the clear HD channels. The CC is finicky with low signals into the home and signal splitters. Once you have conquered that issue, it is smooth sailing except when TW fanagles with their channel lineup (adding new channels) or when they are working in or around your neighborhood. This requires the CC to be rebooted and in some occasions like when Universal HD was added, you have to call in to re-authorize the CC. But this doesn't happen to everyone just us few lucky ones.

Thanks, I guess what I meant was:
For $9.95 (basic cable) can I receive ALL the non-HD Tier HD channels?
Locals, TNT HD, INHD-1, INHD-2, and Discovery HD
I was under the impression that in order to receive the "non-hd TIER" HD channels (all of them) that TW made you sub to Digital Cable which is $45/month (plus cost of converter box).
Then, if you want the HD Tier, it's another $3.95/month
I see Turboliner posted that if you just sub to basic (9.95/month) you get the LOCALS in HD, but what about the others that non-HD Tier?
